Default tightening bearing adjustment nut on triple tree

So I have got my trike finally riding awesome.1992 flhtcu Ultra classic tour glide. With front air suspension. Put avon trike tire on front 42lbs Fork pressure at 9lbs rear airbags at 80 lbs and BFG radial TA on rear at 20 lbs. Now I need to know is there an easy way to tighten bearing adjustment nut which is under upper fork bracket on triple tree. I am getting popping noise going over bridge on over passes and on rises in road and tightening that nut would do it. had fork tubes replaced last year because one was bent. took it in for air and oil seal replacement. they told me fork tube was bent. when they showed me it was bent but not much. Did not have that problem before taking it in. Would dealer have need to remove triple tree for replacement of fork tubes? Thanks for they help friends you are all very awesome!!!!!

I am not doubting that the head needs adjusting but check the lower tree clamp bolts. Make sure they are tight first. Also, check the front fender bolts. See if you can move the fender even a little bit. Check the brake calipers and axle clamp too. There is no easy way to adjust the steering head bearing. The upper tree clamp will have to come off.

    Default did tighten pinch bolts

I did loosen then tighten the pinch bolts with tire on the ground hope that helps. front fender is a bit loose . though. have not taken it for a ride yet. What would a loose fender do? im assuming making noise. But its not that loose.

    Default Using screw driver

Also I seen where somebody loosened the top nut then used a screwdriver right up underneath the top triple tree plate evidently The bearing nut Is starred and can be moved Buy a flat blade screwdriver have you ever heard of anybody doing it that way

I would recommend trying to obtain a service manual. You can normally find them online at a reasonable price & the information and knowledge they provide is invaluable .

Yes I do have a manual, And it is very helpful as it has an exploded diagram. Looks like I could possibly loosen the top nut that is above the triple tree take the torque off of it. Then use a flat screwdriver to turn the bearing nut That sits below the top of the triple tree as it looks like it is Star shaped about a quarter to a half turn. Does that seem like it would be possible would sure save a lot of work

Default Tightened the lower pinch bolts

So I Tightened the lower pinch bolts. Took it for a little ride seems better but won’t know till I take it on a extended ride. What would be making the noise When the pinch bolts was slightly loose. I mean it had some torque on Them it wasn’t real loose But One was tighter than the other and I torqued them down both quite a bit tighter

The loose pinch bolts will allow the tubes to move slightly under load just like the upper cap nuts being loose.

Any looseness in the fender will also make noise especially when hitting a bump.

So the noise I was getting is a real solid noise. Kind of like a hammer hitting a vice. The fender I would think would be more of a tin like noise. The noise happens when the forks fully extend. Thanks For your help I fully appreciate your Experience

    Who made the triple tree?

Perhaps you could download a copy of instructions?

Who installed your raked triple tree?

If they were reading the original motor manual they did not tighten your steering head bolt enough.

The regular fall away specs no longer apply.

( fall away? = with the front end off the ground you turn the forks all the way to one side and it will cycle through the other perhaps 1 1/2 times? )

You must tighten the head steering nut much more, If the manual says 20 ft. lbs start will around 35- 40 ( guestimate )

I dont remember but i think mine is set at about 40?

The first thing to do is forget about fall away it just no longer applies.

It really isint that hard to open up the dash and move wireing out if the way, Take pictures of how it's supposed to look before you start?

Everything you need to move has a connector plug, Mark the wires, get out your torque wrench and do the job so you know in your own mind it's right?

Google pcombe photobucket/library to get an idea with me converting mine?
