Bronze scrapings found in oil
Bronze shavings found in the oil and diagnosed from a thrusher washer coming loose...needed to replace the engines...6400.00...this trike has only been serviced by Harley, had 30,000 highway miles and always kept in climate control garage.
Anyone else have issues?
Also, the plastic trunk latch just broke? Go figure? A $50,000 bike with plastic!!!
I also had my trunk lock break, it was replaced under the extended warranty. $50 deductible
I also had mine break, they replaced it while in for service $50 deductible

The engine destroyed it self
Lots of brass in the oil
Too much crank run out was the problem

I feel your pain. Went through a couple of trunk locks on my ‘10 TG. Engine rebuilt at 86k miles under warranty. Lousy job so now 50k later, literally ordered a new engine this afternoon. Non HD shop will be doing the paid work this time. They showed me the crank shaft with scoring on is from bearing working out and similar scoring on brass fitting right where oil comes through. With bushing slipping, oil redirected away from where needed. Words you never want to hear from a mechanic with 15 years experience, “I’ve NEVER seen this happen like this before”.

That is exactly what a factory rep said to me when my 96 inch engine blew up“I’ve NEVER seen this happen like this before
I showed him the brass looking material I saved from the oil change
This crap ruined the inside of every oil passage and sand blasted the pistons
note, the piston cooling jets were completely plugged

When ever a mechanic says to me ....I've never seen that before....I tell them write it down, So this way when the next guy comes in with that problem 'You can say yes i've seen that before.....

Bob, I have turned wrenches all my life and taught 2 classes, I can honestly say there are things about mechanical work that I have not seen before, specially with electrical.When ever a mechanic says to me ....I've never seen that before....I tell them write it down, So this way when the next guy comes in with that problem 'You can say yes i've seen that before.....
Case in point, the book says in order to change spark plugs on v6 Nissan engines you MUST remove the plenum. This is NOT true, I have done them, in fact Sunday I did here for a neighbor, she said the dealer told her they have never seen it and did not believe it. I gave her back all 6 spark plugs including #1 cylinder that had never been changed in 171, 0000 miles

Jack a few years ago this Harley dealer moved from north to Central jersey so I took a ride over there to take a look at his new shop and while I was in the service department there's three or four of his workers doing a Chinese fire drill around a Tri glide it seems they were backing it up a ramp and tripped the circuit breaker 😱 So nonchalantly I asked him do you have a lot of trouble with those reverse motors? he said no they just tripped the circuit breaker we never had problems with them' that's funny i said I pulled mine out three times and I finally found the guy off the parkway near here That can rebuild them for me ' no sooner did I say that he says to me can I have his number I have a couple in back that have to be rebuilt ! Jim and Trish welcome aboard. Sorry about the motor. You might want to consider a 110 long block instead of a rebuild. Have them put high torgue cams in. won't cost that much more and the difference will be worth it.

Some lubricants have been known to attack yellow metal leading to premature failure.Not saying this is the case here.The rivets in Sportster spring clutch plates are notorious for "grenading" as some owners try all manner of concoctions in the primary.Good ole Formula + does no harm.
Harley trained MMI
Harley wants every one to believe their mechanics are "technicians" that have all the answers. Most have never seen a knuckle, pan, shovel, or maybe even an evo. They are taught computer diagnostics fixes everything, "all i have to do is check the diagnostic code". I had my brake lights stay on and cruise control not working, 125 miles from home. Called dealer, gave them the code and was told it was an ecm problem. Stopped at another hd shop, explained my problem, "old timer" immediately said its your brake switch. $38 part, $45 labor and fixed. Just remember HD means hundred dollars.
