    Cool Tri Glide Exhaust Issue

    Hi All,

    I have a problem/question and hope that I can get some good feedback from everyone. I recently bought a 2015 TG that was all stock. I decided to put on a set of Rinehart MotoPro 4.5" slip-on's and a shock lift kit. Both made a big difference but after riding for a few hundred miles I decided to install a stage 1 AC and put on some True Duals for better performance and to get rid of the CAT. I settled on a set of RUSH True Duals with their recommended True Dual adaptors for Tri Glides. Now, here is my problem... Day 3 in the shop - Harley called me and told me that they were not able to use the RUSH adaptors pipes with my current set-up so they had to order new adapter pipes from Rinehart since it was their slip-ons. Day 10 in the shop - Harley now tells me that the new adaptor pipes that they ordered will not work with my current/new equipment so I will need to either remove the lift kit or switch to a 3.5" slip-on because there is not enough clearance by the axel. I really hate to get rid of the lift kit since I did notice a difference after it was installed and I really like the pipes that I have. Has anyone ran into this situation before? Suggestions???

    Welcome to the Gang from Western Colorado.

    Wow ... a 4.5" slip on seems really big for a trike, I'd be worried about dragging on speed bumps and driveways.

    . If it were mine and i had to choose between a 4.5'' slip-on and then 86 the lift kit i would switch to the 3.5''....

    Just measured my Street Cannons and they are 4" diameter and I dont have a clearance problem. I also have the 1 1/2" lift kit from DK. Id ask to see the fitment of the mufflers and the exhaust befor making my decision. Just don't see where 1/2" would cause any problems. ( I have a 16 TriGlide )

    I agree a 1/2 in in diam is only 1/4 per side. I have 4 inch street cannons on my 17 with a lift kit and i have approx 1 inch of clearance between the top of the muffler and the bottom of the axle.

    First I would think twice about true duels if those are two complete separate pipes from the heads. To my knowledge they never seem to help the low end performance needed with the trikes weight. The lift kit and good slip on pipes add a performance header pipe if wanted but that should be all needed but it is your Trike just my opinion. ride safe Fred

    Your bike but I would dump the true duals and go with a good 2-1-2 head if wanting to get rid of the cat, fuel moto would be a good choice, several out there, I would keep your mufflers you have now if you like them, I would keep the lift kit for sure and I mean for sure, you will notice a difference. True duals doesn't give much low end power from what I have heard and with a trike that is crucial you need low end torque.

    A friend of mine wanted to put a lift kit on his, took it to the dealer and they told him no way with the exhaust he had on, he had vance and hines on it with vance and hines trike mufflers, they said there wasn't any room to do it. I told him they were wrong and more than likely didn't want to do it, I told him to buy the lift kit from DK and I would help install it which he did and he is happy and there was plenty of clearance with his exhaust system.

    Yes, we've had a few dealerships call with the same situation. They are not problem solvers, they are parts replacers. When we, patiently, finally, get them to read AND follow the install instructions, all goes well.

    We've had plenty of folks install 4.5's with the Comfort Lift™ Kit. It is just a matter of properly installing the S pipes so that there is clearance. btw, the axle is not the part that is close clearance wise, it is the swingarm...and it is not with the slip-ons, it is with the header S pipes (what they are calling adapter pipes).

    It may be helpful if they read the instructions that came with the Lift Kit, in them fitment regarding clearance is addressed.

    I have 4" Rhineharts on my 16, no problems with the install or on the road. I also have the lift kit.

    When I put on catless headpipes I had to use the s-adapters, and yeah, the adapter pipes touched the bottom of swingarm. But only when shock was extended. I just put a little dimple in the pipe I don't think either side has touched since.
