Oh Yeah, we can still earn a certain amount whilst collecting SS
So ... a little background.
Most of you know that 2016 was a bugger of a year for me. I lost my business, my Tri Glide and pretty much everything I owned. that included, fortunately, my debt (Bankruptcy). So, although, I loved my Tri, I did get a new lease on debt. Not a wash, but, not too horrible.
In May of 2016 my ex wife who was a Texan and living in Arlington, Texas, Took her own life by putting a 44 magnum in her mouth and pulling the trigger. No real effect on me, but, I took it kind of harder than I would of thought, maybe I cared more than I thought for her.
So for two years, I've been rebuilding my credit, establishing a new business and getting back to some semblance of normal, sort of.
Recently, I had to file for medicare ... VA was insistent since they will be reimbursed for some of what they spend on me. I decided, even though I had a full year to full retirement age, I'd go ahead and file for Social Security also.
I got a call from SS yesterday saying they needed to talk to me about an alternative, RutRo. Then I got an email, outlining that I could draw survivor benefits on my ex's account until I was 70 and my account would continue to grow. At 70, I would then switch to my entitlement.
So, after running around like a chicken with his head cut off, I am now on over twice the fixed income I was before I filed, and that is after I have withholding taken out and pay for my Part A and Part B of medicare. Not a bad deal.
So, I am officially on the Government T$T ... TWICE ... LOL.
Although I'm pretty jazzed about the outcome, I gotta admit, I do feel older, but, I'm sure that will pass when the first check (Direct Deposit) gets here. Heck .... I may even be able to afford the Klondike Bars in Kerrville.
I may have to rethink the whole "working fo a living thing" also. Retarded (not a Freudian Slip) is sounding pretty good right now..
Good on you

Yep...you are safe IN the hotel cess, er, I mean, swimming pool. Who knows what evil lurks in the shadows of those pools, waiting to latch on to an unsuspecting, convenient victim....

Good for you. My late husband didn't survive 10 years of wedded bliss, so I don't get a dime from his social security and he didn't have life insurance. My S/O and I were never married, but I did get a 103 Susan B. Anthony dollars when he died only because he left them in my gun safe.
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. – Maya Angelou
