Question about new air cleaner

Jack, thanks for the reply. So I'm assuming I was correct in thinking that if I use these, then I won't need the hoses and hanging filter. What's the drawback using these? It seems like it would be much simpler and a cleaner look. Maybe it doesn't work quite as well or cleaning would have to be done more often?

I've got a 2018 with just under 8,000 miles and stock as far as engine/headers/exhaust go. I have done all the cooling mods with the exception of the oil filter relocation kit and want to add the stage 1 air cleaner from DK.

You are correct. These offer a cleaner install look, less the hoses and catch can

The down side is cleaning, tho it is not as bad as it sounds

um yeah.... shows you have a 2018 triglide - not the bolts you need the breather kit. The bolts won't work. So you route the hose from the kit up to the frame under the tank and run it under the seat to end up in the 'tray' that is under the rear seat. I highly recommend getting the new version of the can when you get this.

DK offers brass breather bolts so you don't have to have the EBS with hoses and a filter at the end of them. How do these breather bolts work? Where does the 'gunk' go to once it reaches the end of the bolt and filter? Do these have to be cleaned more often than the 'normal' EBS offered by DK?

As Jack mentioned they have dual screens and dual foam filters between the screens. If you do not have a "spitter" the screen/foam combo keeps the wet stuff inside until the engine is hot enough to expel it in a vaporized form.

If your engine puts out a fair amount of "blow-by", these will not keep the wet stuff inside and will end up misting the side of the Trike. No way to know without trying.

One thing to be aware of...if you do a lot of short trips, where the engine does not get heated up enough to vaporize the glop, then it will overwhelm the little filters.

As a rule (there are lots of exceptions) the Sportsters do fine with these, the many Twin Cams spit too much, and the M8's do close to as well as the Sportsters....ie. the M8's do not spit out as much as the Twin Cams.

No hoses or filters needed. Cleaner look. Can get overwhelmed with lots of short trips, especially in colder weather.

I've had Twin Cams where they overwhelmed the little breather bolt filters no matter what, and I've had a Twin Cam where I've gone 10k miles between cleaning with no oil on the side of the bike.

A possible drawback is that the vapors leaving the breather bolts have a smell...does not bother most, but some find it offensive. With a hose and filter, the placement can be further away from ones nose, thus less bothersome smell, if one does not like it.

Normal cleaning is 5000 miles.

No, not missing anything. M8's use the exact same Breather Bolts as the Twin Cams.
