    Default Pre water cooled heads and water cooled heads Triglide price comparison

    I will be in market soon for a approx 2010-2014 stock low mileage Triglide. I know 2014 has water cooled heads and pre 2014 triglides do not. Been looking at list and sales prices on Internet for approx two months while stuck in house with broken leg (from motorcycle accident of course) When comparing trikes with similar low mileage and similar good condition, seems like the 2010-2013 models are listed and sell for approx same price as later 2014 water cooled head model.

    In general, There is no discount in price due to the older year model. My question is do the earlier non water cooled heads models sell at a premium to the first year 2014 water cooled heads model. If you were looking in this year range, for the same sales price and all things similar, would you prefer to buy the earlier non water cooled heads model or the first year water cooled heads 2014 model. Thanks!

    All I can advise ya is make sure that the water pump has been upgraded to the new part number. Other wise Beware ! Or stay in your back yard.

    Buster there is a lot more to consider then just the cooling of the motor. 2014 was also the first year for the complete change of the electrical system to a CAN-BUS system. With that also came the information display. So if you are old school electronics the 10 to 13 is your choice. If you like the new system the 14 is the start of it, with in being refined as the years progressed.

    My back yard is the USA. 30,000 on my 16 Tri trouble free,so far. Original pump. I think they are hit or miss on failures.

    I’ve got a 15 TG waterhead. The only other Harley I have to compare it to is an ‘09 Night Train. To me, my TG runs hotter because all that water does, is attempt to cool the manifold. It still radiates a LOT of heat. Of course the motor for my Night Train was a 96 CI, so that could be a factor.

    Thanks for info, I do all my own work and tend to favor less and older style electronics. But with the later 2014 having the more modern upgrades and being later model, looks like prices of earlier models should be lower then the 2014. Guess I just don't get it.

    Some people don't like some of the modern tack on upgrades? that Harley has been tacking on, And then letting the customer do the R and D for them...

    Just me thinking out loud......And done that....

    Maybe I just don't know any better but I'm completely satisfied with my 09 first year HD production which actually was a Lehman conversion. I've had to change things and add things to lessen heat but it is very manageable. This just me I think all models/years have their own personalities if you will and none are perfect they are machines and things happen, if you don't run them they won't break. I had a oil leak got it repaired cost a good dollar but still less than a payment on a new Trike. I plan on keeping Old Shiney till I die and let the Kids decide what to do with it. just sayin Fred

    Thinks for info on 2014 up CAN BUS. I have been reading some on it and it does not sound too friendly for those doing there own repair. Now leaning toward pre 2014.

    Ironically, I had far more issues with my 2013 TriGlide then I have with my 2014 TriGlide.

    My '10 TG original engine was never all that great. It blew at 86k miles. HD rebuilt it. I thought it ran better. Only lasted another 50k. Both times it was main bearing sliding out and causing oil not to pump where needed. Now that it's out of warranty, I just looked at brand new motor I am having put in. Work will not be done by HD. My point is, sort of, it was always an overheating thing going through NYC that caused two different metals to expand at different rates (poor design) and that maybe water cooling of any sort might be a good thing. I will say that if Honda does ever make a factory trike, I would be checking it out very close.

    Default Trip pump failure

    After speaking with several dealer folks, the question was asked as to how long can you ride with out damaging anything. Got several answers, the main one was that it’s still a air cooled oversized Briggs and Stratton. The cooled water head just equals the head temp vs the jug temp. Otherwise it will run just fine as the previous year design. The other answer was to stop in your tracks as the motor will seize up. The tec that did the repair said he would of done what we did, seek your local dealer for the repair.

    At this point the answer still is not answered.
