New 2019 Tri Glide!

Why? I don’t know. It just seemed to be the thing to do, but I am glad I did.

I went from a 2016 to 2019. Bought it at Bakersfield Harley Davidson. Good people to deal with. I live about an hour and forty-five minutes away on truck infested Highway 99 down the California Central Valley. I wanted to buy it locally but couldn’t find one in the area.

Unfortunately, after buying it, I was called out of town on business. I got back a couple of days ago and have been able to put only about 25 miles on it.

Initial impressions:

1) More grunt, pull and power. I’ll know more after completing the break-in process.

2) The rear shocks appear to be somewhat better than the 2016 shocks, but not much. I need more time to search for the “sweet spot” setting.

3) It is a pain in the posterior orifice to change the rear shock setting. The seat has to be removed to get to the adjustment knob. It is not difficult, but it’s a PIA to remove the seat every time.

4) While adjusting the shocks, the knob feels like it is turning a cable. Based on what I’ve seen so far, the lines from the adjustment unit to the shocks unit appear to be hydraulic. The lines also appear to be connected to the shocks via banjo bolts.

5) Front suspension seems stiff.

6) The Boom Box GTS is fantastic. Much easier to see and use.

7) The brakes appear to have more stopping power than the 2016 brakes. I like the linked brakes. You still have to use both the front and rear brakes’ but the linking appears to give it better and smoother stopping power.

8) The traction control button is in a weird place and seems like a waste of space on the handlebars. I keep hitting it while trying to get into reverse.

9) I don’t like the new reverse on the started button, but it works!

I haven’t decide if I’m going to give the new trike a nickname, but if I do, “Big Dawg” or Trike-a-Saurus” are at the top of the list.

The trike goes in next week for a new $eat, $tage 1 kit and wheel$ & rim$.

I traded my 2018 Harley Trike in for a 2019 Harley Trike. I want to go to a solid color instead of the two tone. Yeah it is a little getting used to having the Reverse button on the right side now, I can see how you would hit the traction button on the left.

Has anyone installed a CB n the 2019 Trike yet. Can't seem to find the correct switch pack that has the reverse/warning/start button labeled correctly.

I was looking at one person's trike here that installed mud flaps without drilling holes...hummm how did he do that it's very clean looking. I'm impressed

I am still working to find the "sweet spot" in the rear suspension. I backed off the preload a couple of turns. It is better, but I'm still not happy with it. There is no rebound adjustment. I going to try backing off the preload another turn or two and airing down the tires a bit, but the lack of rebound adjustment may prevent getting the ride where I am happy with it.

Wasn't me but I remember he used industrial strength Velcro. OP says it works! key was to have the surface very clean when applied the sticky back to each piece.

I dropped off my 2019 Tri-Glide at the dealership early last week for a number of upgrades/accessories and got it back Friday. The upgrades/accessories are listed in Post #26 in this thread. I am especially pleased with the new Screamin' Eagle Street Cannon Mufflers, high-flow air cleaner and new tube (downloaded, not dyno tuned). There is noticeably more power with the Stage 1 kit with no decal popping (and the trike no longer sounds like an angry lawn mower).

On the battery tender...just tuck the wire up under your side cover so just a bit of the end of it pokes out from the side cover, up higher. It'll be easier to get to, and you won't need to be concerned about it dangling and touching the exhaust.

On the rear shocks, HD made some things better, some worse than in previous years-

The shocks, as you've discovered, are slightly better than previous years air shocks...but it will still be a never ending search for that "sweet spot"...but they are a bit better.

BUT, now they are more difficult to adjust than previous years. If you ever add a backrest, you will need to remove it, then the seat, to get in and turn the knob.

As to the battery tender, I do tuck it up under the side cover, but it either falls out during the ride or is difficult to retreive after the ride. Besides, I am lazy and don't like bending over a hot motor and exhaust in my advancing years. I am looking for a bit more convenience.

After testing multiple shock settings, I think I've got it about as good (for me) as it is going to get. I backed way off the preload setting recommends by the manual for my weight (I am a big guy and about a double cheese burger away from 300 lbs., but I won't say in which direction.) The front shock seem to be stiffer on this trike than on my previous 2016.

Do you think the the Convertible Comfort Lift kit would be advantagous with the suspension/rear shocks on the 2019 tikes?

I'm more satisfied with the front/rear suspension on my same color 19. It must have had the perfect setting on the rears because it takes bumps about 100% better than my 16 ever did.

Since I'm still in the break in period I'm not sure about total performance compared to the 103. Yesterday while riding the Back Of The Dragon it was obviouis that there was much more low end torque.

I agree with Marcus when he said the 19's brake better.

For now I have just installed changed-over parts from my 16: windshield, windshield bag, highway pegs, fuel door, luggage rack flags. The bike came with dealer added: windshield trim chrome, chrome axles nut covers, chrome gauge ascents, driver back rest, bumper. I added luggage rack and backrest storage bag.

For now about the only thing I'm adding is a phone charger for the backrest storage bag. I may end up doing a tour pack relocation kit to move it back an inch or two in the near future. Probably won't do a stage I. Probably will do an exchange with Willy Shiny for chrome wheels sometime soon. Harley insists on putting same crappy wheels on these TGs.
