    Default Hannigan - Honda front fork fluid and spring question

    The bike is a 2010 GL1800 with the Hannigan kit installed.

    The forks can be a little harsh at times and I will be changing the fork fluid.

    My question is, has anyone with the same bike set up changed out the springs for something other than Progressives?

    And if you kept the Progressive springs installed what fork oil do you prefer?

    Some of the Hannigan staff insists that Progressive springs are a must and I've disagreed with them on this since day one of becoming a Hannigan dealer 10 years ago. Progressive springs make for a much harsher ride and about half of the customers that have had me change to Progressive springs, have had me remove them and replace with the stock springs after experiencing the ride. Running a lower weight fork oil will not cure the harsh ride.

    What pressure are you running in the front tire?

    38psi is the sweet spot for my Wing/Hannigan w/stock springs

    Progressive's were so harsh it cost me a front fender. My installer told me in 2014 that several of his customers wanted the Progressive's OUT after riding their conversion a few months.

    Not going to be very helpful here.

    But my biggest complaint with Honda cruisers has been the front end. Having one tube a shock and one a dampner.

    Stay with the stock springs. Progressive will 101% give you a harsher ride. I had a 99 Valkyrie and tryed both progressive and went back to stock springs. I used 5. 7 10 and 15 weight oils. None helped.

    Bought the 2010 GL1800 used and same issue same setups no hope here. Im curious about the 2018 having an all new front end and what they did??

    Took the Progressives out of my 1500 and went with Racetech.Personally i would go with Racetech or Traxion before Progressive and on a 1800 I would lean toward Traxion.If I were upgrading springs.

    Default went with RaceTec

    Hello friends, 03 GL1800 champ solid axle trike. I changed out the sagging progressive springs 25000 miles ago with RaceTec. I guess The RaceTec or another brand with a continuous wind of spring spacing was a better idea. IMHO owning a Tool & Die shop 40 years, the Progressive tight wind is too strong and you give up travel. My 110 Racetec haven't sagged,they are still an inch higher than the original which had 20000+ miles. I used spacers 3/4 inch, recommended 1.25" Ride is fine. Maybe 1.25" gets same ride with higher front ??? I would do this again, I can't compare with anything else but I wanted a softer ride and raised front. I hear we should change stock springs out ever 25k , thats Nuts, Imagine changing my car springs at 25k ?? Has anybody else used these with more spacers ? like over an inch they recommend ?
