2014 TriGlide front end wobble

Posting for a friend. He is going to register here too. He has a 14 Tri Glide and is has a slight wobble at about 25 mph. He has had it back to dealer and they keep telling him nothing is wrong. They say they have checked bearings, tire and wheel balance........everything that is possible. I think he is going to another dealer for second opinion. Has anyone had this or similar problems and what was the outcome. He is a little concerned as a few years ago his road king had a wobble at 70 and turned into a full blown tank slapper. He slid down I 40 a ways and then flipped several times. he lost a lot of skin.......several tattoos but no broken bones. I can see why he is concerned. Any input with these problems on similar rides would be appreciated.

Hey Darrell maybe you could take it for a ride your friend might be just a little oversensitive ? I dropped my bike in the 70s and smashed my left elbow and every time I lean to the left I tense up 😱📞

Might be front neck bearings are loose seen this a few times also bad damper rod.

It could be any number of things, including what rhino mentioned of being a bit sensitive.

The nice thing about the trike is that it has a steering damper that will prevent a tank slapper, as long as it is working. So the first thing I would check is that damper.

It appears that from your post the dealership only checked the front tire. Many times a front wobble is caused by something going on in the rear...so those need checking also.

I do not trust most dealerships to properly balance tires or air them up to the proper psi. It could be a tire out of balance, or it could be a ply in one of the tires starting to separate. Worth a close visual inspection & double checking the psi.

Other items that can cause a wobble-

Something as simple as a pebble stuck in the tread of a tire. One time I thought I had a tire going bad. I could feel a new "out of round" type vibration. Looking over the tires, I found one of them had a good sized pebble stuck deep in the tread. I pried it out, and the vibration went away.

Steering head bearings need adjustment.

Panhard rod needs adjustment and/or new heim joints.

Bearing retainer plates need replacement (not holding rear bearing tightly in axle housing).

Swingarm pivot bearings or bushings.

I am sure there are other things that can cause a wobble that I am not thinking of right now, but the above list is a start.

Check the stabilizer rod on the front cylinder.

Had the exact thing happen to my wife's 2013 Tri Glide. Dealer changed wheel bearings and both front rotors. Still had the wobble. Turned out to be the two bolts that hold the engine strap to the front of the front cylinder. Messed with this problem for a couple of months. The bolts felt like they were tight, but they were not tight enough. Tightened to spec and never had another wobble.
