Just turned over 11,000 miles on our Silver Stallion (#562) with only a few minor problems. We took a 7,500 mile trip to Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island & Newfoundland) had quite a bit of rain. Only problem on this trip was the brake light switch & belt. Stopped for gas and it wouldn't come out of park, just removed the tab and with a small screwdriver was able to get to a Ford Dealer and got a new switch, then took it to a trike dealer and got it installed. The belt started sqeaking when it was raining and voltage would drop to below 11 volts. Stopped by another Ford dealer and they installed a new belt. Problems solved. The best thing about the Stallion is that TMS takes care of any/all problems.
Would I buy another one???????? Yes next spring, just to change colors..........

Nice to hear you are having such a great time with your Stallion, Silver Eagle. Trading colors, huh? What fun!

Just picked up #626 from Daytona. 3 issues I have encountered. I did not read about any of these, or I missed it.

    1. the hood shakes side to side. it does not seem to sit down completely tight all the way up. Under the mirror the gap is wider. normal?

    2. starting up the stallion - I turned the key, all the lights came on etc, but no start. I turned off the key and tried again. it took 3 to 4 tries. A couple times it was only two tries. Am I doing something wrong?

    3. when I turn off the engine there are 3 'chimes' from the passenger compartment somewhere, maybe speaker, maybe ??. Anybody hear chimes?

I'm hoping y'all can help before I call Russell or TMS.

Other than these issues, I loved the ride home even in the rain.

Call Russel (by the way his RUSSEL is one "L" only) The hood sounds like it is not closing completely. It might not be setting down on the latch pins correctly. This was an issue with the early production, a re-design was done, so it sounds like an alignment issue to me or you just may not have it closed all the way.

The starting issue is not right. Sounds like the starter relay is hanging up.

The chimes is normal. It is for a system from the Ford Focus that is not used in the Stallion but still makes the noise. Just disregard it.

When you call Russel tell him Ted and MJ say HI. Please tell Libby and Russel we will be in Daytona Friday of Biketoberfest and will stop in.

    Congrats you will love it.

Hi deb54. We were at Daytona yesterday when you picked up your stallion! Re: the hood shake: TBMS is aware of this problem. They may put two pins in so when it closes the pins will hold the hood in place. Re: starting the engine: we had the same problem one night when we stopped for dinner. All it would do is "click...click...". To solve this, move the steering wheel in the "down" position and it should start! Re: the chimes: that's normal. Our car makes a similar noise. ENJOY that Stallion! We're enjoying ours! Hope to see you on the road. .................... Mikey

Unhappy Re: Stallion Repairs & Trouble Shooting

When I talked to Jeff Vey at Wing Ding(early July), he told me they were working on a solution to the head shake. ie a tapered pin and socket on back end of hood. Have heard nothing more since then, may call next week.
He had also said a new "improved" brake lite switch was to be available in July and would be sent to all buyers. Again, nothing since then.
I have had no problems in last month. However, I parked it in garage, covered it, and bought a Miata to drive for fun.

    Hi Deb,
I think that the chimes are from the radio,at least from the 2008's.Open trunk and have someone turn off ignition. Also, lube the cone shaped hood latches and the stationary area they latch too.Additionally, don't be afraid to close briskly. The lube allows mechanism to seat better

Thanks everyone. I moved the steering wheel and ignition works first time. What an easy fix!
So I guess I'll wait on the fix for the hood. We will try the lube on the latch areas as you said. Has anyone tried adjusting the hinge, or will that even work?
What is the brake lite switch or what is wrong with it now, Road Runner?

Nice to have some expert help. Thanks

by moving the steering wheel down to start the Stallion is a way around the problem but is not the fix.
the fix is to pull the ignition switch and re-do the install, call TBMS or the folks you bought it from and let them know that when the wheel is all the way up you have trouble starting it, when you bring the wheel down it starts easier. was not installed correctly.

the chimes is from the Sony radio, it is telling you to take the front off so no one will steal it, it is installed in a locked trunk so no one can even see it let alone steal it. the book that comes with the radio tells you how to turn off the chime

Silverdevil thanks for the radio info. We had an early unit and that is not what they told us was making it chime. I will turn off the chime in the morning.

Deb I still think your hood may not be closed all the way. We have an 08 and they redid the latch pins in 09, so I can not be sure. You mentioned a gap on the one side which leads me to think that maybe that latch pin on that side is not going all the way down. The latch pin and receiver is located about 1/2 way down the hood on each side. You might be able to look up from underneath and see if it is going all the way in. If so maybe it needs to be adjusted. Just my thoughts. I'm sure Russel can give you a better idea. Also I agree the moving of the steering wheel does not fix the problem. I'm sure Russel can fix that also.

The starting problem is an assembly error. Your ignition needs to be "retimed". Had mine done at a Ford dealer, did it 2 times before it was correct. first time, it would start & accesory position did not work. They had rotated it too far in the other direction. Geez, we should NOT have these issues. Poor quality parts and workmanship, IMO.

    Hi,
Be careful what you turn off on the radio.Read your manual page two.If you disable the auto off you will need to hold" off" on dash commander to turn off radio so you do not drain your battery.Again ,the chimes are a reminder you can remove radio and all power is aborted to radio.

Blackburns trikes in Ohio had to get a new proportioning valve assembly from Texas. They picked up my trike with a trailer and fixed it the next day. The old assembly was aluminum and new one looks like it is bronze. My stallion has 2500 miles on it. I got it last August.

Scooter, it seems I have the same problem you had. Our stallion's unit #353, purchased last month (Aug '09) @ Sturgis from Cycles & Trikes of Frederick, MD.

Spoke with Nick at TBMS this morning about brake switch and hood shake.
He says improved brake switch is nearly ready, and will be sent to owners in next few weeks.
The new stablizer pins to solve hood shake are still in engineering stage and will be sent to all owners later on. It will be a cone and socket type deal, on dash end of hood.
Following up on A/C failure which I experienced, according to Nick, compressors had too much gas, resulting in too high head pressure. Also, they were overfilling (7 oz) of compressor oil, which made too much pressure, leading to lock up and clutch failure.

Thanks for the update Road Runner. I emailed TMS about the hood, but no reply. I'm not sure the pins will solve the problem of the hood not coming all the way down, but I'll wait and see what they produce.

deb54 if the hood is not coming all the way down then I'm sure Russel can do something about that.

Road Runner thanks for the undate on the switch and A/C. My solution to the switch was to tape the areas where water might be able to get in. That has worked so far. No A/C problems (knock on wood) but now I will know where to look.

We have an 08 and the hood's latch pins are at the end of the hood so we do not have that issue.

I contacted TMS today and talked to one of the engineers concerning the new brake switch issue. The original switch was not watertight so they replaced about 30 units with a sealed unit only to learn that the contacts on the new switch were failing. They went back to the old switch for the time being and sealed it better. Now they are working on a newer mod that will eventually replace all the existing switches. The fix will not be done for several months.
