    Default kinda irritated

Bought an 18 Triglide last week of April--Overheated and turned on temp light and check engine light (stuck in Atlanta traffic , Fire Creek Harley did an outstanding job of rescuing me)--voltage reg failed , a week at dealer but was fixed-- now transferring trans oil , from full to just off stick every 900 mi. Minor issues were --bolt that holds seat on fell out (did not bother with harley-had bolt in shop)--lower front fender trim dangling by one bolt--Harley buffed fender where loose trim had scratched finish(they did not have the bolts so I went to Lowes and got stainless bolts and installed the trim myself).

    Current miles at 8600.

Sorry man, that sucks. I have had fabulous experience with HD. Maybe look into the lemon law for your state.

    Default HD Dealers

I have had the opportunity to talk to quite a few dealers in the last 2 months - From Wisconsin / Michigan / Indiana / Kentucky and TN. It appears that a "Buy it here and it's a lifetime powertrain" Warranty are in force. Two dealers in TN / 1 in Kentucky and another in Michigan and Wisconsin. Didn't ask or see the others...curious if this incentive to purchase an untested and proven motor has prompted this at other dealers.....

Sorry to hear about your problems, hope you get them ironed out.

Where I live we have 2 dealers that offer forever warranty, this includes new bikes and also used bikes, not all used bikes, they check them out to see if they are good enough to offer forever warranty, this only applies to drivetrain. The do have some bikes they give a 6 month warranty to. Now the catch is, for it to work, you have to have it serviced by them or another harley dealer if on the road, so at 1,000, 2,500, 5,000 miles or what ever the manual says for service this is what you have to do to keep the forever warranty,

if on the road you have to keep the receipt to prove it, kind of a pain in the butt, but for some it works out good, me on the other hand, I have been doing my service for 25 years and I can't do it now, bummer, if I do I lose the forever warranty but not the factory warranty, guess I will have to live with that, as I age each year it is harder to get up off the ground when doing oil change, transmission and primary changes, easy getting down but not up, LOL

***** This is where broke teenagers come in handy.Find one that likes motors and train him/her to do the work.I use them for lots of stuff.Mowing, weeding, painting, wood cutting. Had a couple of 'em set up 20 ft scaffolding so they could paint. Three new families moved into the neighborhood and guess what they have?Hot dam, a guaranteed supply of low cost domestic labor and I didnt even have to smuggle 'em across the border in a 53' trailer. America-what country!

    1,000 mile service-$350-$400

    5,000 -$400-$500

    10,000- -$450-$550

$1,200-$1,450 for the 1st 3 services & you could have bought an additional 5 year ESP from Boardtracker, provided you get it in the 2 years period your factory warranty is in effect.

I know what I would buy. Do you think they offer this because it's good for them or good for you?

Now if your someone that pays your dealer to do everything & I know a lot do, then you might as well take the warranty they offer. Personally, I can't afford to pay them.

I like doing the regular maintenance & along with the $18 electronic factory service manual in PDF form, to me, it's not that difficult.

It makes it much easier having the manual, but I've always been a technical manual geek.

I feel your pain,as some of you know my 17 has had its fair share of issues(refer to the 17 days later post)so this is the reason i am buying the 2 year extended warranty from Harley this coming spring.

Old Road Dog, not around here, no teenagers like to work at all, must be different where you are, I know I have been working at something since I was a teenager just to have money to spend, parents around here just give the kids money to spend, you can go to mickey d's and they are senior citizens working instead of kids, it's a shame in my area, just my thought.

MDO, I know what you are saying, they are counting on you bringing it in for service, haven't decided what I'm going to do, have until I get 1,000 miles and since winter in upon us here, it will take awhile and then I will decide, I know I like doing the work, just hard getting up but it is doable for now, I'm not crippled yet, LOL

Default Harbor Freight moving blankets are my support system

Trampass, Although I walk just about everyday now for 3 miles, I had to have a left hip replacement 12 months ago which has significantly decreased some aspects of my range of motion due to the artificial hip. What I have been doing pre and post surgery is kneeling or laying down on $6 moving blankets that I buy from Harbor Freight. The blankets cushion my 69 year-old body from the hard garage floor and I am able to get up and down with a minimum of drama. I can't recommend them enough for more easily getting onto and off the garage floor to do the maintenance on my 2017 TGU. I also used this method with my 2016 TGU before I had the hip replaced as things were still getting very "crunchy". If by chance one of the blankets gets soiled, I just throw them away. $6 is a hell of a lot cheaper for labor than taking my trike to Harley. Besides, I know that every item is carefully inspected and re-fastened to the exacting Harley specs. It is both fun and a hell of a lot less expensive to do my own maintenance.

Thank you Capt Bob, never thought of that, will look into that for sure, anything to make it more comfortable on the ground the better, I have a creeper that helps out, but basically it is harder to get up from that than it is the ground, so thanks again for this tidbit.

Trampass, I had to give up on the creepers as well because they, as you so aptly pointed out, are much more difficult to get in and out of than lying or kneeling on a moving blanket or two that is stationary on the floor.

I got 1 of those roll around stooles from Harbor Freight ($18) & I'm liking it a lot. Very handy for rolling around the trike. The blankets are a good idea also. I got some yoga mats from Goodwill & they are working out for me also.

I spent over half my life on a creeper, back then I had real long hair

It always got stuck under the wheels

I prefer an old bed comforter now, I have more leverage laying down parallel to the trike

Blankets sound good, but I put a large piece of carpeting on my garage floor which serves the same purpose. Easier on the knees too.

I found a 4 x 6 thick carpet runner that I use for anything on the floor now. Haven't used my creeper in several years, will probably sell it on next springs garage sale!

I have a couple pieces of foam 24" x 48" x 3" thick. They came out of a furniture box. really nice on the knees. I also use them to lay a waterbed heater on and place under the bike for really really cold mornings in the winter.

    I took a 2x10 board

cut (6)six 12 inch sections, and glued two boards together............So now I have (3) glued together boards.... I just jack up bike and place the glued together boards under each wheel, so now my bike actually sit 4" inches higher..............Much easier to work under it, or to wash/wax with out laying down on your back.......
