Auxiliary Fuel Tanks

I was thinking about adding some fuel capacity now that my trike only gets about 100 miles per tank. I found this link in another forum that looks like they have several good options. My trike, VTX1800 RoadSmith, has fuel injection; so adding another fuel tank seemed overly complicated with vents, return flow and/or additional fuel pumps. This Tube alternative might work, just throw the tube into the trunk or strap it onto the trike and pour up to two gallons into the main tank. Looks like it is a heavy duty aluminum thermos bottle. Here is the link in case anyone else is interested.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather stop at a gas station every 100 miles than to pay that kind of money for something I would have to stop to pour in the tank anyway. If it was linked to the main tank somehow that would be different. If it works for you, that's what really matters.

My 08 Roadsmith has an AUX fuel tank, installed by Trike Shop, it is a 5 gallon unit with a pump that pumps fuel into your OEM tank when the low fuel ligh comes in u flip a switch and it takes abount 15 min to swap over whille u are riding....between the two we get about 225 miles.....have fun..........Ray

To me the Aux gas tank could be useful if U travel out west or to Alaska where gas can be few and far between. I too like to stop and get off about every 100 miles or so, with my bad knees and Cathy's bad leg it helps to get off and walk around..
The price is a little high, but that was not a deciding factor...as we all know the trike is only a starter kit...

I easily get 150 mile to a tank on the 1500 trailer or not 2 up drops to about 130. i will get off every 100 to 120 miles anyway seems you pass a D & D or a D Q every 50 or so miles that is a must stop.

I also have a Roadsmith with Aux tank. Most of my rides are less then 100 miles between stops, at least now I get to choose where to stop. And some of the gas you find in rural SC is so old there is no way I want it gunk up my trike, and pay $ 4 bucks a gal. So the extra tank allows me the freedom to choose better gas better price.
I even have a 60 gal aux tank on my F250 pickup, 1672 miles before fill up.:BootieShake:

I hear ya. You never know when you'll be in Timbuktu with little gas around. It looks too expensive for what you get though. On my trike I carry not quite 1/2 gallon in 2 MSR fuel bottles. Not much fuel, and I wouldn't want to be farting around with 10 or 12 of those bottles.

If you want to carry a couple of gallons, the tube would a better choice then the bottles.

Reofl, if you do not have the Aux tank installed. I think you will wish you had later. I use mine frequently. I don't always leave home with a full tank, and at times if I need fuel I will pump only a gallon or so out of Aux as needed.

Getting ready for our trip to Rockies Gold, I picked up two of the MSR bottles just to be on the safe side. Ran real close once or twice, but was able to find gas. Mainly on the back roads, so it was good to have them on hand, just in case. Never know when a station that shows up on the GPS will be closed. No extra tank on my Motor Trike, but may have considered it as an option if avalible when I picked up the Trike. That Tour Tube could be a suitable option as well.
