My favorite HD tech. John Maxwell, just released a short video explaining the problem with the clutch & discusses the recall.

This recall tells me HD is rolling the dice thinking this new part (no doubt already on the 19 models) will fix the 17-18 bikes
What about the 14-17 bikes and now we see some Softails showing up with hydraulic clutches
Hang on here we go again
My clutch is working soooo good I hope they don't muck it up with this new part
I already intend to bleed this new unit every year, unlike the MOCO wanting it done every 2 years

Got the clutch recall done today and so far seems just fine . . . but then it was fine before also. Yet don't want to take a chance of having a problem with a known potential failure. And oh yeah, had the left hand switch pack replaced, again. But this time I got the newest part, 71500135B and a new clutch lever, 36700148A as detailed in Service Bulletin M1468, 03-12-2018. Think I had the first replacement just before these new parts were introduced. Hopefully no more problems starting in gear - I hope, lol.
just had a conversation with one of my 'go to' dealers today. The parts have been coming in - about 6 - 8 per week and in a few weeks they will be in the mode of bring it in and wait for HD to send them the part. Amazing considering how many bikes are in FL.
On the good side, they had someone ride up from down south and after 2 1/2 hours the guys bike get the problem. They didn't have any of the recall replacement parts left, so they changed the fluid and bled it. The guy made it all the way back home with no a single problem. One more thing they said - since the average operating temp is under 100 now that the cooler it is outside the more this will not happen. Also if it is hot out only go about 2 hours and let the bike cool down before continuing.
Last note they offered - if HD didn't move the CC back in the exhaust this might not be happening now. So the bottom line - change the head pipes and problem occurance reduced considerably
So did you get yours fixed?
I rode back to St. Louis from southern California in 115° heat last year & rode in several 90-100 degree days & mine has not done it. I think its a bad batch of seals in the slave cylinder. I really hope it's not a heat issue .

I haven't yet, now it's whether or not they have the parts in since it's riding season right now. My personal opinion is that MOCO QA now sucks (pretty much ever since they stupidly opened the York plant) and take quantity over quality. The get the same part from a couple different sources and this creats certain issues in certain bikes. Just like the breach of fluid issue some talk about, one of my dealers has never seen it. Then I factor in - break in, riding style, and of course with the trikes - experience.
Some of us have been riding for decades and have been on 2 wheels, where a vast majority of trike owners are new and this is their new thing. I see it all the time at bikeweek.
Mine has had 0 issues, she runs perfect and I suspect that even though I will eventually get this recall taken care of, that I really don't have to. Either way, the only bike I never truly loved was my 14 Ultra Limited. The rest have been fantastic and lacked (knock on wood) any issues. Hopefully I'll be able to get a Road King back under my ass sometime in the next year so I have that when mama doesn't get on back.
I also got my recall letter yesterday for my 2018 Tri Glide and the 2017 Limited I traded in. I was put on "The List" last week for the repairs when they get enough parts.
The dealer still has my 2017 in the lot.
I received my notice a couple weeks ago. My dealership is changing hands currently, so I'm going to wait till sometime in December. I live in Iowa, so it's friggin cold right now. What the hell happened to fall? It's been down to 13* last couple of nights. Come on summer. Just dreaming. Jerry

Talked to my local dealer said his first batch was 4 parts.Since i will be taking it in for a extended warranty inspection in spring i will have them do the recall then.
When this thread came out I checked to see if mine was on recall or not, it wasn't at the time, now it is, I got my letter from harley davidson motor company saying it is, will have to check with dealer since it is winter here and my bike is on the lift and put away for the winter.

Got my recall letter from HD on Friday. Called my dealer; svc manager said I will add you to my list and call you when we get the parts in to schedule the service. They move a lot of trikes, so I may have a wait... have not noticed any issues with the clutch so far, though.

I know it's not fun, but I urge everyone that's still riding prior to the fix, to take 2 minutes & pop the master cylinder cover off & check the fluid level.
There are increased reports of trouble while operating. Be careful out there.
