    Default Harley Trike Conversion wouldn't start, so

    The following is strictly for information porpoises only. I hadn't used my trike for a couple years as have been having various operations.

    Had drained the tank way back, but now felt like starting her up again. Put a gallon of gas in there and -- no start. Noticed gas leaking out the quick disconnect under the tank, but thought just a o-ring problem. Checked for a spark and mistakenly thought there was none. Ordered a new coil after testing it (poorly). In the meantime, did a lot of internet investigation and one person said if you have a leaking gas line, your motor may not start.

    So, back to my less than stellar troubleshooting, and now found a spark. Then looked at the fuel quick disconnect (not the one on the tank itself), and saw the o-ring rotted. Decided to drain the tank and look at that part of the quick disconnect. Both o-rings were rotted. I then looked for all those o-rings on the internet (2 on the tank part, and one on the hose part). The two on the tank part were (off the internet) 11105 (or AS568A-109) for the smaller top one, and 11387A (or AS568A-905 or Advance 64492.1) for the larger bottom one.

    The bottom one was the cause of my leak while the hose was connected to the tank, so I bought the Advance one, and changed the others with one of the hundreds of o-rings I have laying around. I couldn't find any of the o-rings on-line without purchasing 90-100 of them, except the Advance one was per unit.

    Hooked it all back up and the motor started! But, the gas gage wasn't working, and had a B1004 and B1005 code. After some more search, someone said use some Seafoam or similar in a full tank and see if the codes clear up. So, added Seafoam to a full tank, and after 4-5 "trike shakes" over 30 minutes to slosh the fuel around, the codes vanished.

    Life is now good again.

    By the way, the trike is based on a 2004 Road King Custom, in case anyone wondered.

    Way back when,,, they said drain your tank. Now days the new thing says full tank with Stay Bil ( or some such fuel additive) for storing. Just passing along. Seems to work for me on all things that dont get started but maybe once a year just to check. Think it has something to do with Ethanol in the gas.

    All the way back in the 60's/70's when i put my Snowmobiles away from March till next December i always filled the tanks to the top, and never turned the gas off to the carbs, That way water [condensation] didn't get in the tank, and the carbs stayed Wet so the seals didn't dry up....I do that with my ATV'S .....Regardless of what the so-called experts say...I found you can learn a lot more than the experts just by doing it caveman style...And i never had a problem ....But then i'm not an expert...
