Default Warped pulsating brakes 2008 Stallion

I have a 2008 Stallion with just over 13,000 miles.

Has anyone had a problem with the brakes pulsating from warped rotors? Mine is kind of funny, the first couple of stops are fine and then as the brakes/motor warm up the pulsating gets worse and worse. I have had pulsating brakes problems with vehicles so I know it's the rotors, I just don't know if its the front or rear?

I want to know if its the front or rear brakes?

I know it has been said before but what are the Front Rotors from?

    Front Brake Pads from?

    Rear Rotors from?

    Rear Pads from?

Can I put ceramic pads in the front and rear on a Stallion?

On a normal motorcycle the front brakes are supposed to have 60% to 70% of the braking power, anyone know how much braking power is on the front and rear on a 2008 Stallion?

How do I register my Stallion on here and show pictures of it?

Thank you all for you the information,

    Greg

Greg, I'm pretty sure if it was the front (CJ7 Toyota if I remember correctly) you would feel the vibration in the steering wheel. Rear brakes are Ford 500 about 2005-2007. tomg

your issue is more than likely front. the stallion uses a lot of front stopping power. the exact percentage I'm not sure but it is the most. the front rotors are semi floating while the rears are non floating.

the front rotors are available from motor trike in troope tx. as far as I know they are only available from them but they are reasonable priced.

the front calipers are custom made I was told by motor trike but the pads are from a toyote fj cruiser yes you can use ceramic but they are just as dirty.

rears are from a ford 500 calipers and pads. he only unusual thing is they use the right side from the ford on the left side of the stallion and left from the ford to the right of the stallion. but that has no effect on how they work.

ceramic on back works also. they are not as dirty on back.

you can go to the stallion forum and there is a thread for listing your stallion.

Hi Tom, No everytime I applied the brakes it felt like the entire vehicle shook, that is why I have asked if it could be the front or back breaks because I'm just not sure?

What exactly are you saying are the CJ7 Toyota parts?

On the rear brakes, are you guessing or are you for sure that the years are 2005 to 2007 for both the rotors and pads for the Ford 500?

    Thanks,

    Greg

Has anyone ever asked Motor Trike if the braking % can be shifted to more of a 50/50 or even a 60% front to a 40% rear to help reduce the amount of braking pressure on the front wheel?

    Thanks,

    Greg

    Default Stallion Brakes

Greg, while we are on the brakes, I will put in my 2 cents worth. On the rear pads the 2005-2007 Five hundred is the proper year because that is the only years that vehicle was manufactured. As far as how fast they wear, on the rear they should be at least checked at about 35K. I let mine go until 45K and had to replace my rotors. Now, on the front

I think they will last 100K because when my rear were worn out, I still had a lot of meat left on the front. I don't remember anybody wanting to adjust the %%% of braking on

the front vs. rear. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Greg, My front rotors are warped as I can hear and feel them when I apply the brakes. 38,000 miles on it now and they've been warped for awhile. The backs still have about half a pad left. I do have a new set of front rotors sitting in the garage, but I'm waiting for the pads to wear out, or the tire to go, before I bother changing them. It's more annoying to me than a problem stopping.

I don't remember how much the rotors cost, but I do know they weren't any more than car rotors. When I ordered the rotors, I also got 4 shocks and new style ladder bars, The bill, with shipping, was around $1000.00 If you want to change the percentage of braking between the front and back, I would guess you would have to install a new brake proportioning valve. I don't think any of us know enough to get into that. Rick

Gregg, Gorilla replaced the front rotors on his wife's Stallion and bought the rotors from TMS. He also indicated that they had more in stock so if it were me, that's where I would start. I had to replace a rear rotor which had a surface crack and got it thru Auto Zone . I think it listed for about $30 but the Ford dealer who installed it (I was out of town) and the new pads I provided, gave it to me for their price which at that time an location was under $20. I also replaced the front pads from Auto Zone, DG606 and Ted said FJ Toyota not CJ . Hope this helps. Tomg

    Good morning

I have also replaced my rotors what i found was that the pins holding on the rotors to the wheel wear out. i think from the extensive heat created in the front brakes that the springs lose their springiness and then let the rotor wobble from side to side thus making it seem like warped rotors, just another thing to look at.

My biggest problem is the more I ride it around town during a day the worse the pulsating gets when I'm braking. It gets to a point where the entire Stallion is shaking so bad it's not fun to ride in. This is why I'm looking for answers. None of my brake pads are any where near close to being worn out.

Hi Dragon, Let me describe what is happening a little bit further now that the weather is getting colder out. I live just NE of Detroit. When I first go out the brakes are fine, no pulsating. The longer I drive the worse it gets but again now that is it getting colder out its taking longer and longer for the pulsating to get worse and worse. I'm open for suggestions from anyone as to what is going on?

Greg, Have you tried to just apply the rear brakes using the parking brakes?

That would isolate it to the rear or the front in my opinion . If you don't get the shaking, I'd replace the rotors but, when you have the front-end suspended, try moving the wheel to make sure the wheel bearing are tight. You could also call Richard at TMS and run all this by him for his input. Good luck. Tomg

    Good morning

as Tomg said get the front up and check to make sure the bearings are tight, check steering head bearings also. my front calipers had water in them, bottom cup had alot, their are 2 bleeder screws on caliper upper and lower, bleed the lower and see if water is present. good luck let us know what you find

Thank you all for all of the good input, Yes I'm going to give Richard at TMS a call and see what he has to say about my problem. I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Have had caliper piston stick & it gave a "pulsating" feel on the front brake lever on my trike, 1983, GL650, V-twin with dual front brakes. I know...not the same...….but the piston may have some crud/rust holding the piston from fully "pushing" the pad to the rotor face. Suggest you remove caliper & clean the piston assembly. Make sure you use a "tool pick" to reach down into the bottom of the cylinder (all holes) to get that crud. Re-assemble & use new DOT 4 brake fluid. Grease pins. Did they have small flat springs back of the pads???? Someone remove them?? Not sure IF this set-up has them or not...just asking.

One other thought: I have had on another bike and another type of pulsating, a new in 1980 Honda GL1100I fronts (3,000mi). Checked pads, calipers, slides, dirt, etc.. Finally thought about rotating one or both the rotors. Went 2 bolts holes in one direction and finally...it was done. No more pulsating at all. Just a dumb luck?? Don't know, but never had issue again. Others had this issue sometime after mine...so I just told them about what I did at the time. Hope this helps.

    Hi Dragon,

Do you happen to know any part numbers of actual names for the pins holding on the rotors and also the springs you talk about and where are the springs located?

    Thanks,

Call TBMS that is going to be the only place to get those parts. I spent many hours trying otherwise without luck

The only problem now is TBMS doesn't sell to the public any longer. I called them to try and buy the front rotors and was told to go to another company. It took 2 days for that company to get back with me. When I called back a second time I spoke to the lady that answered the phone and she told me that they still sell the rotors but I would have to have someone like a mechanic shop or motorcycle shop to call and order them instead of me.

    Hi Greg

as ted said tbms is the only place for these parts. what you need to do is find a motor trike dealer in your area and go through them to get your parts. you can them tell them what you want and then they call motor trike for avability and price then they call you back get your information and then call motor trike, will ship the part to you. it is a pia but that is the way it is.

I went thru R & R Trikes in Jasper Ga to get my parts and I live in Key Largo Fl. But it works that way.
