    Default Sheepskin Seat Cover

Looking at putting a sheepskin seatcover from Hartco on our Wing. These are custom made to seat and are tanned using a chromium process. Please let me know of any experience any of you have with any type of sheepskin cover good or bad

    Cool Soft sheep skin

    Hello,

I don't know if I have ever seen on on a motorcycle before, but I hove one on the seat of my work truck and I average 25-30K a year in it.

I can tell you I love it there, it's always soft, a little warmer in the winter and a bit cooler in the summer, the one I covering my seat now has over 175K on it and only the non-real sheep skin fur is showing any signs of ware.

To me you may be on to something great there,

Let us know how it turns out, maybe even post a photo or two of it as well.

    Best of luck,

We use custom sheep pads with long hair and love them. Cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Don't know about the short hair covers.

Mike, are you using Hartco, or some other brand? If it rains, just throw it in the trunk or tour pack?

Mine were made by a local company called Misty Mountain Sheepskin:

    http://mistymountainsheepskin.com/

He custom fitted two pads for the driver and passenger. Rain - yeah, just throw them in the trunk. I think ours have the 2-3" hair and periodically I brush them out with a pet brush.

    Default sheep skin seat cover

we had the full pelt sheep skin on our gl1500, it was great cool in the sumer time and warm in the winter. what I did not like about it was when it rains you need to get it off, just like a spong, ours had a 2" nap and eazy to care for use a dog hair brush & vacum cleaner . ( I got a simon's seat and not longer need it )

Before we got the Diamond seat on the GL1500 Motor Trike, we got a RENS sheepskin from Ikea. Cut it in 2 pieces and made it fit - one for the front seat and one for the passenger. As reported above, warmer in the cool and cooler in the warm. They were just basically a pad, not attached. We kept them on by applying a weight to them. (Us) We just threw them in the trunk when we were off the trike. The price is good at just 29.99 - https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70026822/

I am sure there is a difference between these and the higher dollar skins, but these worked for us for a few years before we ponied up for a custom seat.

This is the sheet skin I use ... it's on my 07 Ultra ... couldn't find a pic on the wing

They are really comfy and do a great job when it's hot. I like the removable ones, because when they get wet, they take for ever to dry ... LOL.

Thanks for all replies. Gonna do some inquiring over the winter. Just wondering if more spending more is better for comfort.

We have a full pelt black sheep skin that we got from a store in Cherokee NC. Only $75, four years ago during our first Maggie Valley event. We have it on all the time. Warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Adds a little cushion too.

I've had a couple of these over the years. DON'T get them wet. They will stink like hell. Not worth all the extra effort to me. Beads work almost as well, especially in the Summer to get some air between your butt and the seat

I've used both. They each have their place. I like the dead sheep in winter and beads in summer. Beads get rather nippy in winter but they are great in summer. Swamp butt becomes a thing of the past when using beads.

Thanks for posting this link ... I had "Modified" my sheepskin to work with a backrest that was not removable. What does that mean, I made it fit just the rider seat. The problem is it didn't stay in place as well. Been looking for a replacement. Ordered this one to replace my old (11 years) sheep skin. Wow ... didn't realize that ... 11 years with my B$tt on it . Time for a new one .. I think this is gonna be a great replacement. I'm hoping it's not so thick that I can't roll it up and put it in the saddle bag, but, thick enough to keep the B$tt cooler in the summer and warmer in the cooler times.

couple of questions - i just got my first trike. 2003 goldwing MT solid axle...

    1) do the beads attach some way to the seat?

    2) where can I order them? do they come in black ?

    3) do the beads poke into the seat fabric and leave a mark ?

    cheers !!!

I put custom make covers on my trike. Driver and Passenger seat and both backrests. I wish I had not chosen black as a color because they have faded and now look blue.

I wish I had gotten a lighter color like the pewter....

I have a Hartco sheepskin cover on my 97 wing. Absolutely love it. Looks awesome, always get compliments and the seat never gets hot or cold. You can’t take it off when it rains as it’s fitted and you have to remove the seat to take it off. It does stay wet for a long time when it gets soaked but never smells. Hartco makes a vinyl cover that I didn’t buy but wish I had. I would strongly recommend it. Hartco is a great company and if you call them chances are you will be speaking directly to the owner.

+1 on the Hartco sheepskin seat covers. I bought an 87 Yamaha Venture in 1997 that the PO had installed them on. Road that bike for another 10 years and they held up well and were always very comfortable. Finally wore the seat part out, but the back rest and drivers back rest parts are still going strong.
