Santa ... you know since we have the lights
I was asked awhile back why I named my Wing Helga.
When I was younger ... much younger ... my beard was really red, I'm talking flaming red. This was while in the Navy before the outlawed beards (which is why I haven't shaved since retiring). Anyone whose been in the Military will tell you that you will get stuck with monikers you might not want. They are terms of endearment (that's what they told me) so you learn to appreciate them. My moniker was "Hagar the Horrible". I get it, I was big, chubby (fat), a big red beard and very cantankerous.
Later, when told to shave my beloved beard (actually not so much that I liked the beard, more like I hated shaving), I shaved not only the beard, but, my heart as well. You guessed it, my new moniker was fuzzywuzhe. I get it ... big, fat, bearlike, and fuzzyish ... you know the poem.
But I digress ... I was talking about the Naming of Helga. My response when asked why I named her that was, "She's buxom, cute and fun to ride." Well there is more to the story. My first Navy moniker (nickname) brought me to research the inspiration for my nickname.
I thought it would be good to start a thread that folks could share their affection for Hagar the Horrible.
So I'll start with a few of my favorites:
The reason the Navy says they outlawed beards ... youngsters were growing sparse facial hair and calling it beards.
