    Default Looking for advice

My 2018 Freewheeler was recalled because of hydraulic clutch. [ of course parts are scarce ] I would like to install an after market cable either hydraulic or not .

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jim

I think you should just get the recall done. Trying to convert back to a cable operated clutch is not worth the money or the hassle.

Thanks for the advice. I'm concerned about who would do the mechanical work.

Jimmy, A cable clutch could be done tho it would be expensive, plus there would be adjustments to be done on a regular basis

Let the dealer do the recall, if you are not happy with the way it works you can check into this

The recall is not difficult & takes 60-90 minutes. I have got a nice ride in to check operation after the recall was completed & all is well. It also saves you the maintenance time of flushing the hydraulic clutch system with new fluid for 2 years.

If you go to the thread on the clutch recall, watch the video by John Maxwell, a HD tech, on the recall, its good information.

I'm looking to replace the cable which holds the recall part. I don't care if it's non hydraulic. I don't want the dealer to touch my bike. This is my 4th Harley and they weren't hydraulic. I don't mind adjusting myself. Owners are waiting MONTHS for recall part. I really appreciate your advice. Thanks Jim Let the dealer do the recall, if you are not happy with the way it works you can check into this

I believe any authorized Harley dealer can and will do the recall.

Thanks Jack, they just finished fixing my Broadband signal/service for the 4th time in 7 days. This time for sure. Apparently it was a combination problem of water/ice, squirrels & shorted wires.

That's not a cable, it's a DOT4 brake fluid line. Due to it being a safety issue, HD has to do the recall. If they let a bike leave the dealer without the recall & there's an accident, they would be in trouble.

I had my recall done a month ago. If you work with the dealer you don't wait months.

The AIM unit IMO is far superior to the Brembo unit H D uses

However, if you have the AIM unit installed on your bike now defeating the HD recall you will void any warranty you may have

It is worth checking into IMO

I noticed again today, after my second good ride after the recall being performed, the clutch is definately engagining earlier, when releasing it. It's much closer to the grip that it used to be prior to the recall. I am happy with it.

If I wasn't such a scrooge, I would have ordered the AIM actuator too. Believe me, I considered it. The MoCo addressed & fixed the problem, in my opinion & I'm happy with the fix.

I would much rather spend the money on a rider backrest.

Just got my 2018 Freewheeler back from my mechanic. He installed the Light Force Slave Cylinder. What a difference. Very easy to engage.

Good to hear some feedback on the AIM actuator.

Don't know for sure but won't your Freewheeler be listed now as having an outstanding warranty?
