I am thinking of switching tire size. I need new rear tires . I now have 255 X55X16 I want to change to 205x 60 x16 this will give me a taller profile but the same dia. both are 25.7 in tall and both go 811 revs per mile .Has anyone else done this? i can get my raised letter tire in the 60 series not the 55 .

John there should not be any issues, with the overall diameter being the same.

Methinks you will get a wee bit better MPG and feel slightly more nimble with the narrower tire. In my experience outfitting dozens of trikes, your thoughts re: revs/mile are correct.

I am being told I can't do it. The 205 is too narrow to fit the rim that the 255 is on . I have to check and see what the rim width is . Any one know what rim is on the DFT

Hmmmm, come to think of it, they are probably quite correct about that! Can't get into the site I use for tire/rim parameters, but 205 would very likely require at least an inch or more narrower than a 255.

CRS cut in the tier size I have now not 255 but 205 on an 8 1/4" wide rim. . the problem becomes worse as i would need to go to a 185 wide tire and i don't want that narrow of a tire on the trike sooooooooo I guess we can forgetabtout.... now where can I get a 205X55 X16 RWL tire?

I installed 20S on my trike.All I had to do is install coil over shocks.And Spacers behind the wheel. They handle great.I was going for a cool look and got great handling to.Ck my pics

That's a strange wheel size, they usually come in even inches, some are x-1/2 inch. Wheel width is measured at the inside of the rim, not the outside.

You didn't say what your bike is. The DFT GL1800 has a 7 inch rim. This may be standard across different bikes, based on a website I saw.

The recommended tire for non-ABS GL1800s is 215/60-16 (slightly more diameter than stock, makes the speedo pretty accurate), for ABS bikes it's 205/55-16 to keep close to the stock wheel diameter for the ABS.

This tire isn't RWL, but it's available in a wide variety of sizes, and well rated for resistance to hydroplaning, a key thing for trikes, which are vastly over-tired at the rear. It's what I have.
