    Default 2017 trike/J&S Jack

    HI,

Just got a J&S Trike jack for my 2017 Trike and it doesn't come close to fitting under the bike.

Both arms as far down as they can be and I tried from both sides and it just doesn't fit under the frame.

I guess I'm missing something but sure don't know what.

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Jon

Try rolling the trike up on boards to give you more clearance for the jack. or use a jack and lift up the trike a bit to get the jack under the trike.

Not sure about the newer Tri's but are your rear shocks adjustable or have air fill?

Jon, The J&S lift for the TGU is only suppose to go in only from the left side of the trike as you sit on the seat. The lift should be scant fractions of an inch from the left rear fender and make sure that the lift bracket handle is in the down position (all the way to the left). You might also want to pump up the rear shocks pretty full and make sure that the rear tires have the unnecessary 26 pounds of air just for this lifting procedure and to get maximum clearance under the trike. I generally run 20-21 pounds of pressure in my rear tires.

    Default J&S Tri Glide Jack

I have the Original 2017 jack and it works fine on my 2017 Tri Glide. You may check a few things:

Was ram of jack screwed down in proper position on frame?nstalled correctly on

I have a 2017 Tri Glide and a J&S jack. Only issue I had was the instructions said to slide under the right side of bike.It needs to be installed from the left (rider) side. They never updated the instructions.

Was the ram of the bottle jack screwed down (or up) to the proper position on the lifting bar?

Maybe try bleeding the air out of the jack.

Again, jack must be positioned about 1/2 -1 inch from the rear fender and the adjusting arm must be in the lower position.

My jack uses a different bottle jack than is currently used and I looked at J&S's website last week and they have changed their trike jack. Now you must order a Trike jack and order a TriGlide adapter. It appears the adjusting arm is gone and something has been fabricated to allow the jack to lift a HD.

I've been lurking this site since I bought may Tri Glide, but haven't felt I've had to contribute. I have learned a ton of information and visit this site everyday.

My j and s trike jack works just fine after I got the conversion piece, it worked great on my 2016 but had to order the new arm since it goes in on the left side. With my 2016 it worked great and I wouldn't be afraid to get on the seat of the trike,

It has 4 contact points on the frame, with the new arm I got I wouldn't even think of getting on the bike now, you can rock it up and down, seems only 3 contact points now, but still a very good jack, the rocking up and down means if you push a little on front fender or push down on rear bumper it will go up and down a little, so I won't be getting on the trike seat anytime soon, wouldn't even do it on the 2016, LOL

My trike in a 2018 by the way, same as 2017. You do have to get close to rear fender on the trike to get it under it going in from the left side, now with the 2016 from the right side, still close to rear fender

    All for now Trampas

I have the same jack as you BUT I own a Goldwing Honda, so i'm not sure of your height of the bike,,, BUT I ride up a small 2x6 board, that lifts my front end up just high enough to slid the jack under, when front wheel is on the board.......works perfect!

    Default LEFT SIDE...YES

I love my J&S trike jack. I bought it when they first went to the left side lift to accommodate the 17 and up models. That said, their instructions suck. I have tried several time to get them to film a new video using the new style (left side) jack and to reprint the written instructions showing the left side model and pictures. It is beyond me why they just don't seem to want to do it. I have to admit, I haven't checked their site lately, but the last time I looked (a few months ago) they still had not updated. It sure would save them a lot of complaints and phone calls.

I went to their website and they are still showing the video with them placing the jack on the right side of the trike instead of the left as they now are designed to do. Sadly, the original founders have I think handed the company over to their children and they don't seem to get the picture of what made the company popular which is and was customer service with quality functioning products. They have reportedly been late on deadlines and have put out some lifts that would not have passed visual inspection from a blind person. I hope they are getting it together as their products work very well. I did have to replace both of my bottle jacks with one under warranty and the other on my dime but the new bottle jacks seem to be better than their old ones.

Bob, you are correct. When I ordered my jack the company had recently changed hands. I think it actually changed in mid or early 2016. Anyway, I had several conversations with the new owner and he related to me that they were new owners and were having a little trouble getting settled in. About this time they realized they had to change the jacks for the 2017's and that slowed them down also. They were having trouble getting parts and having to send some stuff out for painting or powder coating. Anyway, I finally got one of the first batch with the new left side lift after about a 7 week wait. However from what I saw on here and other forums they were still having trouble getting jacks made and sent to customers at times this year. My jack has been fine but they could sure help themselves with a little better web site, videos and updated instructions.

Interestingly, at about the same time J&S changed hands, Pit Bull also changed hands and they were having trouble getting their jacks to work with the new trikes also. I had a Pit Bull air model and they made me several adapters to try. However, they applied too much stress to the left arm and caused some twisting. It scared me and I just sold my Pit BUll to a guy to use on a HD 2 wheeler and bought the J&S air model.

    Default Funny Thing

Just a little funny side note here about the J&S Trike jack. When my new J&S jack arrived 12/29/16 (ordered 11/25/16) i opened the box and started putting it together. As I started the assembly I suddenly stopped, looked at it, looked at it again and set down on my work stool. I took a deep breath and said, "well he**, after waiting 5 weeks for this jack I get it and some dumba** at J&S has put the adjustable side riser on the wrong DAM* side of the jack"! I had a few more choice words for J&S and I read the instructions again. Well all the pictures and the instructions indicate it should be on the left side like it was in the pictures and video etc. So, I called J&S and they then told me about the new jacks for trikes had to be used from the left side of the trike. Well that was DAM* good Information to know and I said "why don't you put that

    in the instructions"?

Well, I looked at their web site a few minutes ago and the video still show the old model. I don't know if the new instruction sheets show the left side or not.

"mike696", said "My jack uses a different bottle jack than is currently used and I looked at J&S's website last week and they have changed their trike jack. Now you must order a Trike jack and order a TriGlide adapter. It appears the adjusting arm is gone and something has been fabricated to allow the jack to lift a HD. "

I just looked at their web site and under "trike jacks" it shows complete with adjustable riser and handle etc. There is an "adapter" you can order to use the jack on regular 2 wheel bikes listed, but it is just a separate item you can order if you want one. Am I missing something here?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my post.

The problem was that I didn’t have the jack far enough, now works fine.

I tried to buy a jack about 18 months ago without any luck. Excuse after excuse with nothing being resolved I cancelled the order after a three

    month wait.

This time I called, and after several tries I got to speak to someone and placed the order.

My card was charged the same day, which was OK, but I never received any communications from them after that.

No confirmation, no order number or expected shipping date.

After about three weeks I called and the person said it was going to be shipped the next day, which, evidently it was as I received it about a week later.

They really need to communicate with their customers a lot better.

There’s automated emails that can confirm the order and can be sent when the order is placed. When the jack is ready to ship an email with expected ship date, shipper and tracking number should be sent to the customer.

Again, the message can be mostly automated, just have to fill in some blanks.

I wonder how many orders they have lost because of the lack of communication.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Jon

    Default Sorry, me bad

I have no idea where I thought I saw a TriGlide Glide adapter. Sorry for the misinformation. I just looked at J&S website, and it is new!

I'm 70 years old and still riding. Saw new inventory at my dealer's website and, well what can I say...Traded my 2017 for a 2019 over the phone..

Big smiles on both of us!!! (Haven't ridden is yet because of rain and 35 degree temps. Thursday should be 55 and no rain

Tried to post picture, but copy and paste doesn't work

It's a Scorched Orange/Black trike. Dealer just got it in and it was 2 days from end of year, so they were ready to deal and gave me a fair trade.

Mike, Congrats on the new ride. I am kind of partial to the color of the trike you got. Not sure why? Oh, I know, it is because I bought that same color! BwahahahahahahaName: FirstRideAfterSurgery (300x169).jpg
