Default Stallion headlight and running lites don't work together.

I just bought a 2008 this past August and love it only I have a problem with my lights. When I bought my stallion as I was doing the walk around, I asked the owner to turn on the 2 driving lights and he said what driving lights. I pointed them out and he said that they never worked and he was the first owner. I was planning on getting them looked into this coming spring. It had the original headlight in it so I went to Autozone to buy some brighter bulbs. I drove it to my sisters for Christmas which was quite cold. When it was time to leave the headlight was burnt out and because of that the 2 driving lights came on. I had to drive home on the high beam.

My question is why can't I get the regular headlight and the driving lights to work together? Anyone else run into this problem?

Are you saying that when the hi-beams are on the the running lights [AKA] Fog lights turn off...Or when the low-beams are on the fog lights are off...

When I have good working headlights both high and low beams the 2 running/fog lights on the sides have never worked. It wasn't until the low beam burnt out that the 2 side lights came on when the headlight switch was in the full on position and was pulled out.

I have a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid with the same headlight switch. What happens in it is with the low beams on I can pull the switch out and the fog lights come on. If I flash or turn on the high beams in my Escape all of the other lights go out and that is what should happen in the stallion also.

With the low beams on I should be able to pull the headlight switch out and the 2 side driving/fog lights should come on also but they don't when I have a good low beam headlight working. Currently when both of the low and high beam lights are in good working order, there isn't any way to turn on the 2 driving/fog lights on the sides in the front. I want to know how to fix this and make them work with the low beam like they should be doing.

A shot in the dark, but it sounds like some one added those lights but connected them to the wrong head light switch terminal. Ya need a meter tester on those terminals or relocate that wire.

Just for kicks, I went out and checked mine. With the low beams on, when I pull out the headlight switch the running lights come on. When I push the turn signal stalk forward to turn on the high beams, the running lights go off. Turn off the high beams and they come back on. I did notice my relay was intermittent the first couple of times I tried it and then it worked every time I tried it. I did try cycling the headlight switch, but that didn't help. Maybe my relay is going bad. Hope this clears up your question on how they work on a Stallion. Rick

My problem is I never thought the 2 running lights on the side ever worked. If I had the headlight on and pulled out the switch the running lights never came on. When the low beam burnt out I must have had the headlight switch already pulled out because when I turn on my headlight the 2 side running lights came on. So now I know the running lights work but when I replaced the low beam they won't come back on now. This is my problem.

Now that you know the fog lights work......Either the relay or the switch is bad.....I would change the relay first.....

The amount of headlight wattage displayed at one time is regulated by the government and I believe it is 220 watts at any given time. That is why when any car goes to high beam the driving lights will go out. This may be the case with motorcycles also. I had a Gold Wing 1800 and that is the way it was from the factory. Electrical Connection makes a harness that will allow everything to burn simultaneously. The Stallion would be within the legal window with everything burning at once, but it is in a catch 22 situation running automotive circuity.

Hi Tom, yes I know all of this but my system ISN'T working this way. My high and low beam work fine but as I have said, until my low beam burnt out I didn't think my 2 running lights on the sides worked and when my low beam burnt out my running lights came on. Once I replaced my low beam, the 2 running lights won't come on again no matter what position the switch is in.

My next thing to do is find someone good with meters as suggested already and try to find the issue. Richard at TMS might have suggestions for you ? Tomg

I replaced my high and low beams with HID's and put a couple of running lights under the mirrors. Now I can see. Here is before and after pictures. First is with stock headlight, second is with HID low beam, I did replace the high also, and the third is with everything. You CAN see me now. Rick

Can you possibly send me the link to the lights you put under your mirrors? I really like the look of them. The Hid's, what exactly are they? Make and model number? What did you wire the lights under the mirrors to, your low beams or the 2 running lights? Did you have to put in larger fuses to handle the extra watts of the 2 lights under the mirrors?

I'm sure you can see a whole lot better at night and everyone around you can see you a lot better as well.

Also have you thought about adding any extra lights for when your running or flashing your high beams?

The HID lights are from DDM Tuning in CA. They come with everything you need to install them. The people there are very helpful if you have questions. There are H9 lights in the Stallion now. These are H9-H11 as they are the same size. I did wire in a 12V relay to work the lights as the low voltage for the daytime running light isn't enough to fire the ballast for the low beam. The high gets 12V when you turn it on.

I got the mirror lights from Amazon. "Headlight Lights, Dacawin 312V-80V Universal Motorcycle E-bike 20W LED Modified Headlight Lamp (Black)". I put in a separate push button switch for them, with a relay, next to the two rocker switches for the air bags and pedals. It just sticks on.

If you're not good with wiring, I suggest you get someone that knows what they're doing to do it. It's not hard, but it takes a little bit of knowledge.

If I want to flash lights at people, I use the mirror lights as the HID's take a bit to warm up to full brightness.

I also installed LED lights in all the other lights. Turn signals, brake and back-up. If you want to do this, just check all the bulb sizes and buy LED's to replace them. I did replace the turn signal flasher with one for LED's.

    Thanks Rick,

Once it gets warmer out I will look into doing the same to my stallion. Great looking display of lighting.

I did the work quite a while ago. It's been about 2 years ago. As you can see, the Stallion is now wrapped in blue metal flake with a white metal flake stripe which has been on for over a year now. I did the work when it was still the factory red. Rick
