Has anybody delt with HD for paint warranty? I have a 2018 that has 6 or seven spots that looks like the primer is showing thru. And both fenders that are bad. Need these fixed.

How long have you had it (I know it is a 18) and how many miles on it? If it is mostly in the area on the bottom front half of the rear fenders they will probably try to say it is just normal road debris damage. Got any pictures? Good luck and keep us posted.

I had an issue with paint cracking on one rear fender and the dealership tried to get it covered on my extended warranty. H-D only covers paint defects on the original two year.

Long story. I had a crack in the tourpac on my 03 Ultra. The fiberglass was cracked and that cracked the paint. My dealer agreed that it would be covered. Corporate said no. The district pooba came and looked at it and said yes it would be covered. Again corporate said no dice. This went on for over a year. I also had my bike in to have a 6 speed trans put in. I told the dealer to cancel that due to the way I was treated on the paint problem. Well a week later the dealer said to bring the bike in and I would get a new tourpac/paintjob.
I guess the lose of so much money turned the tide. Don't know who buckled - I think the dealer absorbed the cost.
Harley says PAINT IS NOT COVERED - PERIOD.

Gary, I respectively disagree. Had an '06 CVO Ultra and when it was just shy of a year old I had a delamination of the paint on the outer fairing around the screw that holds the windshield (right hand side as you sit on the bike). Dealer took pics, sent them to the moco and I got a new outer fairing. No problem as it was obviously a defect and not damage. On my '12 CVO Ultra after I'd had it about a month I noticed a blemish on the very top edge of the outer fairing. It wasn't obvious until you first saw it and them it looked horrible. It was right in my line of sight.
Again pics to the moco and I got a new outer fairing. So I guess it is case dependent. My paint issues were strictly paint whereas yours was caused by a crack in the tour-pak which I am assuming the moco could say was not a defect but caused by something you did. Not saying that was the case at all but I can see where they would push that line. Anyway I can say with certainty that ESP will NOT cover any paint defect for sure.
I wish I had your experience. It really aggravated me that everyone that saw the problem agreed it should be covered, but the home office wouldn't budge.
It wasn't exactly a crack. It was a weird type of depression kind a like a layer was missing(burst bubble?). it wasn't very big (maybe 1/8" dia.)and was located near the latch.
You're right it all depends on who is involved.

Gary, part of the difference may be attributed to where the defect area is located. Dealers have a very specific procedure and even a chart showing the significance of cosmetic defects. Basically a defect on a surface that is readily apparent and from a certain distance (I don't recall what that is) would perhaps qualify for replacement whereas one (for example) located on the underside of the fairing lower might not because you couldn't even see it unless you looked from underneath.
I certainly agree that for the price of these bikes we should and do expect the cosmetics to be darn near flawless and hold up for a reasonable time.

My experience with HDMC for cracked paint around the trunk on my 2014 TriGlide was not positive. Two different dealerships tried to get HDMC to was a waste of time. At Champion In Roswell, NM I did see another 2014 with the same problem being sold used. Don't have this bike anymore, traded it in for a 2018, and here's hoping that it doesn't happen to this one.
My 15 Tri had a crack in the tour pan and it was covered. Since it was the same production color, ie still on the assembly line, I had a new tour pak in 12 days ... not a repair and repaint.
I've always felt the inconsistencies dealer to dealer ... even with the field guy coming out is part of why HD is loosing it's following.
