Towable Trailer Question

Never having towed a trailer behind a motorcycle, I'm curious whether the one I use behind one of my Street Rods is doable? I have this trailer.....

It has very little tongue weight at all, it is capable of hauling 600 lbs. and is 30 cubic feet.

I would like to use it because of the 15" wheels. I'm just a little concerned it may be too large. at 65" wide. My TriGlide is 60".

Your trailer looks a lot like Motor trikes trailer... Might have to add a sway bar but cant see why not !! Reese makes a kinda inexpensive sway bar I use it for my 35 foot bumper pull... It works great just can't back up with out taking it off.... But that is with a trailer that weighs 11,500 lbs..Also might catch a little wind !!

With the amount of weight you will be pulling you will NOT need a sway bar. I pulled a camper that was about the same width as your trailer and it was half again longer than the one you have. Just make sure you have enough tongue weight so the trailer doesn't sway back and forth. Too little tongue weight will cause a trailer to sway while towing it. I have a Goldwing 1800 with a csc kit and it pulled the trailer just fine. Your trailer is doable, it will work.
I have several thousand miles on the trailer behind my '34, it's never given me any sway problems, but even loaded, I can guide the trailer around with just one hand. I think it should work, just need to wait on the weather for now to try it.

That's one nice looking trailer. I see no problems towing it with your trike. Only a couple of things to be aware of and one has already been mentioned, tongue weight and being aware of the extra width.

BTW: nice car too

By the way...... I sure think that car is cool!

Should be doable. It will kill your fuel economy though I would think, hanging out in the wind.

NO PROBLEM! I have a 600 pound capacity and my wife religiously loads it down to 800 pounds....or so it would seem. Mine will get a little "twitchy" while running in and around 18-wheelers in turbulence at 80MPH or so, but nothing the trike can't handle.

Trailer should tip down slightly towards the rear of the trike the tong weight should be 60 lbs min. at 600# trailer weight . i pull a much larger trailer with my wing and don't even know it is there . MPG will be about 2 less at 65 and 5 less above that . I miss calculated that on my last trip and ran out of gas for the 1st time in 30 years 4 miles short of my destination :giggle:

I pull a Leesure Lite tent trailer with my trike and my bike. 54" wide, more than 60" long plus the tongue. load capacity 700 lbs. I never load it much more than 450/500 lbs. total weight. 30 cu. ft. be careful how you load it. Even weight both sides. tongue weight should be around 10% of total trailer weight but the bike will determine that.. I have pulled the same trailer with a Goldwing 1500 and a Harley Ultra Classic. The Harley liked a heavier tongue. My trike, the tongue weight doesn't seem to mater as long as I stay close to the 10% ratio. The trike handles the trailer better than the bike, more like a car. I hope this helps.

I had that same type of trailer for my 39 Ford and it was a trooper ! It went everywhere with out any problems.

I think the unloaded weight is a little higher that some of the the purpose built MC trailer but I would think it would work fine. They are wide and VERY stable.

You might want to put some skinnier tires on it to lessen the drag. Mine were pretty wide to match the car. I would think 205's would work with it.
