    Default Tips and Tricks Needed

    I have ordered KST Kustoms 12 inch Mayhem Bagger Bars and after getting quotes of $350 to $500 for installation I am going to do it myself. The one part of the process that has me just a bit intimidated is the throttle by wire plug. I ordered them prefished and the wire extensions. The brake and clutch lines do not need to be changed. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I will have a tablet with YouTube pulled up and I am thinking that taking pictures of the entire disassembly will be helpful if I get confused along the way.

    Kurt take your time it is not rocket science if you change oil and a radio head once and a while you should have no problems. I did my 2+2 sweepers and had to wire them to boot, it was the first time I had ever done anything close to that except changing handle bars on bicycles as a child. Take your time no problems.. Fred

    Kurt as I recall the TBW cable is plenty long and does not need to be extended. There is only one connector inside the fairing. The newer bikes with the Canbus electrical system are a piece of cake for fishing wires through the handlebars. The very small JAE connectors do not have to be removed. I fished all my wires internally and didn't remove any connectors. Much easier than the first time I did it on an '11 CVO RG when I had to de-pin and re-pin all the connectors.

    There are several You Tube videos to help you. Here is one I used:



    Take your time, take photos, make notes and you'll be fine.

    +1 on taking your time ... this is one case where "haste definitely makes waste".

    As stated, it's not rocket science. Pictures as you go are very helpful.

    I also recommend cardboard to "push" screws into in the order they come out (old trick I picked up from a "tupperware party" with the BMW guys). Basically you can draw a rough diagram where the screws came out, push then into it ... the card board will hold them in place so when you get around to needing them again, you can easily figure out where what screw goes. Likewise, you can tape nuts to the cardboard as well. Make a new hunk of cardboard for each phase. The card board and the pictures should keep you out of trouble.

    Another hint ... test stuff before you put all the plastic back on, switches, bar adjustment, etc ... I learned that the hard way ...

    Default nt brake switch

    Very important to put a small piece of paper in the front brake handle so it doesn't ruin switch when taken off. I believe most video's will tell about that little trick just remembered myself. good luck Fred

    None of the videos I have watched have shown this. Thanks I will use this. One question, do I need to tape this in place?

    I didn't but you could... you know the old saying if can happen it will happen to me sort of thing ya kno... Your entertainment system is completely different than my old 09' I've heard it is much easier to do the newer version than the older one's. Good luck take your time you will be fine and proud you did it yourself. Fred
