Using Garmin Basecamp Help Please!

First I apologize if this is not the correct place for this question. I am looking for someone that can help with making routes on Googlemaps and uploading them into basecamp for use on my new Garmin 396-LMT. I have watched several youtube videos and still can not figure this out! One video used a version of google maps that is no longer available called mapsengine.google.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated, also if there is a better place to post this question let me know.

I have never done what you want ... but ... I use basecamp all the time. IMHO, it is superior to Google Maps ... easy to use ... you can get your route through how you want to go ... avoid certain type roads ... lots of other stuff. I have a Garmin 550 I've had for years ... it has lifetime maps, kind of trying to figure if I should mount it on my 06 since it has Navi.

I always use my Garmin. A couple years back I had a new car (about 3 months old) and was traveling across southern Colorado (US-160) and soon as we crossed I-25 the GPS in the car lost its directions and it was like that until we got to Salina, KS on I-70. Got lost again in Indiana but my Garmin was with me all the way.

Thanks for the reply. I am new to basecamp and it seemed a bit overwhelming at first. I watched a few more how to videos the other night and I impressed myself and was able to make a few routes that worked!

As you play with it you will discover tricks that allow you to "Massage" your routes to your needs ... I hate going over The Million Dollar highway in south west Colorado if I need to make time or it's winter, by using waypoints, I can tell Basecamp how to bypass the road to make time or avoid feet of snow in the winter. Pretty kewl.

I think Garmin has some how to videos on their website too .. at least they used to.

Lost in Indyanner??? Lawdy! Just take i-65 north or south or I-70 east or west. This will prevent a boring death! Bwahaha

I’d love to learn base camp but it & I must fall into the You can’t teach and old dog new tricks category. On the serious side I don’t hear very well and it seems the instructional videos that look like they are going to be informative are by someone with an accent. This just about leaves me out. I can only make out part of their words.
