Question about Orlando, Florida

I lived in Orlando for a while in the '70s but haven't been back there since.

I have a friend who probably will be going there for a month at a time three or four times this year. He is wondering what the traffic is like there these days and whether he should take either his Road Glide or his Tri Glide. How is the riding around there these days? How hard or easy is it to get out of town and find some decent rides?

bob can not reply about the traffic I live way south in key largo. I expect it is like any city heavy in rush hours.

as far as riding florida is still mostly flat. 50 miles nw of Orlando is leesburg. it is somewhat hilly and a lot of lakes but you have head up into north ga fot the nice rides.

We don't get to Orlando too often but there is a lot of traffic when we manage to get that way. Like Ted said, north and west is where to ride, Leesburg, Tavares, Eustis, and Ocala National Forest are nice areas. He's not going to be doing the twisties so bring the Tri, easier to be seen with the local traffic.

I live in Lakeland, I can tell you I-4 is a nightmare almost all the time, at rush hours, forget it. Yes, and I-4 runs from Tampa through to Daytona, right through Orlando, get to Disney that way, so that gives you a clue to the traffic. Two wheels or three, flip a coin I'd say, you'd probably have more visibility on three. You'd have better luck going east out of Orlando rather than heading west toward Tampa.

Thanks guys. All that is kinda like I was thinking it would be like. The riding will be nothing like what we have here. I think he was wondering how hard it would be to get out and away from the city and I'm sure that will depend on the particular area he will be in. I agree, I think I would take the trike for the reasons mentioned. I'll pass it on.

ETA: We will be installing a lift kit and better shocks on his Tri in the next few days. Surely he will take it.

True, Jack. Also many beautiful horse farms spread out thru Ocala. Or, on auction day, you can walk right up to the horses that will be for sale at Ocala Breeder Sales.

Traffic is hell around downtown, Rush hour especially. With all the interstate construction there is now heavy congestion on the side roads. When you add in all the tourists going to Disney and Universal who are lost, and doing u-turns it is a real mess.

Areas 40 -50 miles away from Orlando is great for riding. Lakes everywhere and great out of the way little eating places. Orlando itself is a traffic nightmare. I'd never ride my Trike there. I don't even go to that airport anymore. Have friends fly into Sanford when I am in the state.

We lived in Tampa for 13 years , the group we rode with would make the trek to Daytona every year.

We avoided I 4 , always took the scenic route north of Orlando . It may take a little longer but is way more interesting .

One of the reasons we moved to NC was the FL. traffic .

Funny, now we are considering moving back to Fl. due to the cold winters here .
