I purchased Jessica on 12/18/18. My dealer got the paperwork to the DMV on 01/22/19. My DMV didn't finish whatever they do with it until 02/22/19. So ... you can see that even giving us poor slobs a 60 day temp, it is a cr$p shoot weather or not you make it. About every other vehicle or so, I have to ask my dealer for a second 60 day temp. This costs the dealer $7.95. With Jessica, my dealer didn't issue the temp until I actually picked her up on 01/03/19, so, I made it with 7 days to spare.

I know Texas is really fast with this stuff ... Carla got her plates in no time, but curious if other states go through this garbage. I know ... I know ... it's government so nobody is working too hard ... but, 30 days from the time the DMV gets the paperwork, to when you can get plates ... just seems to stink of red tape and government bureaucracy to me.

Good news ... got my plates this morning.

The last 5 new [2 bikes and 3 Trikes] i bought were from a dealer in Pa.....And they issued temps ..I live in NJ....One i did myself back in 08 [08 Spyder] Had it done in one *day*...The others i let them do it...And with my 11 Tri-Glide i drove 4 days with an expired Temp before the new registration came in...Its a hit and miss with DMV....

*-*_The first clerk refused to register the Spyder, She said i didn't put the lien holders name on the paper work.....And when i told her i payed cash in full for it....The green eyed monster came out of her....Then she said well you still can't register it, Its an off road vehicle ....Then when i tried to explain that she was wrong , The Black and white differences bubbled up...''On her part only'', So she threw up her hands an said I'm taken a break, turned around and walked into the break-room .....While i and 75 other people behind me were left standing on a clerkliness line...A clerk from another line calls me over and proceed to register the Spyder no problem ....,,,..

Ya gotta love nj dmv. Incompetence at every level. And a nasty attitude, what a lovely combination.

If you go yourself , At least in Jersey....And have all your paper work in order...AKA Check and double check it...And can put up with two main problems IE; 1] The person in front of you at the counter with a heavy accent and also didn't double check their paperwork, And now wants to fight with the clerk ....Till the clerk calls over the armed cop thats on duty at the DMV's....2] And so now you have to deal with an upset clerk.......

An hour or two..Give or take..

When I was still active duty in San Diego, I needed to renew my plates.

Went on my lunch break (told the boss I may be late) to the National City DMV, closest one to where I was. I actually got there and although it was very slow, I saw a sign that said, "The only english speaking clerk was at lunch and I should come back at 1:30".

I asked politely to see the supervisor. She came out and I stated my case that as active duty, I only had my lunch break to get this done. And since I didn't speak Spanish, and this was America after all, I needed her to do my renewal. She looked at me like she wanted to kill me and asked me to follow her to the "English Speaking" counter (ya get that, the only English Speaking Counter) and she did renew my plates.

I suggested if they served a bilingual community, they might want to hire bilingual clerks. She didn't seem to take kindly to my suggestion. But what can I say ...

Via a dealership can vary allot. Some are in two weeks, some up to six.

Turning the PW in myself we get them immediately. Except for specialty plates.

In NY , you need to hit the line to have your paperwork checked out. If it’s ok , they issue you a number and you take a seat and a nap , or play a game on your phone. Thers 10 counter stations. However I’ve never seen more than 3 occupied, or a Help Wanted sign

We are not allowed to "hand carry" our paperwork unless you buy something from a private party and then you need a State patrol to "verify" the VIN. That may have changed as I have not seen the State patrol car at the DMV the last few times I was there ... hmmmm ... maybe you have to get to the State Patrol headquarters or just gave the DMV employee's the "power" to verify the VIN.

You gotta remember, although I live in a smaller fairly conservative town, the laws that affect me are dictated by the liberal college crowd on the East side of the Rockies in Denver ... and they are all High.
