    Hello again,

Two years ago I lost my wife to cancer and decided I would go back to two wheels and got rid of my 17 Triglide. In two years I have only put about 2k miles on it. I used to ride that much in a 4 day weekend with her. Soon to be 66, I find the thought of 2 wheels and being alone on the road to be worrisome. So I have decided to come back home to 3 wheels. Rode a Freewheeler a couple of years ago at daytona. Thinking that as a single rider now, the Freewheeler and its performance might be up my alley. I know Screwball owned both a Tri and a Free. Has anybody else owned both? I probably might not purchase new. Any years to avoid?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'd like to keep on riding but if I don't get a Free or Tri, I will sell the Limited and just drive the convertible. What say you?

Well..... as a guy who has had choppers, stock sport bikes, and full dressers with and without side hacks.... I would say the choice is pretty basic. Do you want a more open air cruiser kind of feel or a wind broken full dress touring kind of feel ?

Riding my Freewheeler is more like riding my 78 Low Rider (without the lean of course) and less like riding behind the batwing fairings of my Electraglides....

But even with that said... The Freewheeler is a good touring cycle. Like a Heritage with standard shocks and no leaning

I ride a 2015 TriGlide and love it. I think there is only 150 pounds difference between the two and I would opt for the extras on the TG.

    Good luck with your decision.

I had an 09 Tri and a 15 FLRT. (FLRT is for sale) Of the two I liked the FLRT the most. Almost all of my riding is solo. The TG is a far better platform for two up riding. Passengers will feel allot more comfortable on it.

I am sorry for your loss. I lost my wife to cancer last year. She rode many miles with me on two wheels but started having trouble getting on our 2012 Victory Cross Country Tour while I was trying to hold up a 900 lbs. bike. So to keep her riding with me I traded it in on a 2015 Freewheeler and she loved it. I liked it but missed being on 2 wheels. We toured on it and she was happy with the comfort. With careful packing there was enough room for what we needed to take and I added a trailer hitch so that I could use a hitch rack and bag for extra luggage capacity. After she passed I considered going back to 2 wheels but finally realized I really liked the Freewheeler and will most likely stay with it. I have all the room I need for trips and it is a sporty and responsive ride. I like to relax while I ride and just listen to the motor and don't need all of the bells and whistles of the Triglide. You might consider renting both a Freewheeler and a Triglide for a day to help decide which way you want to go.

    Good luck.

I have rode all the different versions of motorcycles and find the Freewheeler fit my requirements for continued riding at my advanced age. I feel safe, confident and awful content. I ride solo and alone mostly. So I think a Freewheeler would be a good choice.

The only way to resolve this with any chance of success is to ride both and go with your heart. Tough decision, but, it's one only you can make.

    Default Freewheeler

I'm 62 myself - We owned a 2011 Streetglide and like everything about it - But holding that sucker up with her on back killed my hip and knees - We dropped it one time an after that she was basically scared of it - July of 2018 we traded it in on a nice 2016 Freewheeler at our local dealership - It is so much fun to ride , no more worries about falling over on loose surfaces - She is back riding again an we couldn't be happier

The power of that 103 Rushmore is like night an day to my 96 cu in SG - I've had it chirp the tires going into second gear many many times - Reminds me of a 70s muscle car

1 more vote in the Freewheeler camp. I have a 2017 & love it after making it mine.

I will ad that if I was buying now, I would go with a 2019, due to the improvements in suspension , front & rear, braking/traction control plus that 114 engine.

I'm not trading my 17 though, as I'm in love.

I am sorry for your loss. Riding alone is an adjustment once you get used to having a best riding buddy. I don't think the convertible can replace a trike.

I did a test ride on a Tri Glide a few years ago. I didn't really enjoy it, but when I first saw the pictures of the Freewheeler I knew I had to test ride one. I was riding a Road King so I felt more comfortable on it. I don't need or want a fairing and I don't need a big back seat. I love my 2015 Freewheeler.

Ride safe, have fun and enjoy every day.

If you can live without the creature comforts I say go for the Freewheeler

That said, you may want to rent one for a day or 2 and ride the snot out of it

Thanks for the replies and kind words. Her last 5 years we owned and rode a 14 Tri and a 17 Tri. I loved both. I rode the Free at Daytona and was amazed at the perceived difference. The Free felt like a sports car. I think i am leaning that way. It will still tour but is nimble. If the damn rain ever stops here in SC i will hit the dealer. We have had 42 inches of rain since September and only 2 weekends that it didn’t rain. I probably will go ahead and ride both to be sure.

As I said before I ride solo and alone, did the same with my Miata. I sold it last Sunday. The replacement is the Freewheeler. Only rode the Miata as if it was a bike. The Freewheeler will be more fun.

My play toy is a BMW 435i hardtop convertible. I will probably keep it since it can be used all season. Freewheeler looking good though. Local dealer has a 15 I can trade him for and get a little boot or some "stuff" Blue with x pipe and stage 1. I am leaning toward just going to a 19. Not sure about the denim red. I like the blue and have not seen the Bonneville salt. The 114 on the 19 means extra grunt and maybe better mileage (motor not working as hard)
