    Default Buying a 2019 ???

I broke down this weekend and started negotiations with dealer for a red/silver 2019 TG. Not a bad deal, but I think I could get a better price on my 2014TG if I sold it outright. Dealer is going to give me $22K as trade in. I wish I hadn't installed so many farkles.

I'm retiring in 3 weeks so this is going to be my retirement present.

Tonight my financial advisor is coming over to go over our retirement situation - he may say "You idiot, you can't buy that Harley if you want to be able to retire."

Anyone interested in a 2014 black TG with 1000 miles and over $5000 (mostly safety and comfort items) in add ons?

If all goes down the tubes, at least I will still have an almost new 2014TG. Keeping fingers crossed.

Look up your NADA price on the trade in. You can probably remove most of your Farkle and not have them give you any less.

They key is, what is the bottom line after the trade-in. Lot of times they will pump up the trade in and then do the same on the new bike to offset.

Curious-what broke down this weekend on your '14? Do you have a warranty on the '14?

I'm thinking the same thing, rhino 2 beat me to it, so many on here talking about the 2019 and since GaryD is thinking of retiring I would imagine he wants a newer ride to last him for the rest of his life.

    Ah, I see that now.

Well, a good running 2014 with only 1000 miles on it. Will be interesting to hear what the financial advisor advises.

    Correct on All the above.

Kevin, "I" broke down and started to look at a new one. After all, I just bought the 2014 (with 786 miles)in August after totaling my other 2014TG.

I am taking a lot off the '14 but only what will fit the '19. I've looked at a lot of adds for 2014TG's. The range is from about $21K to $28K. I even saw a couple that wanted $30K. Most had 13k+ miles. A few with very low miles. So I think the dealer did give me a good price - if it was a bare bones model. I hate when you can't recover some of the cost of the accessories. Dealer also took off $1000 from MSRP. Shop manager also said he would do a lot for me with the removal/install of parts that I can't do myself. He did a great deal on the last removal/install for me so I think I will make out on that too. I don't think I'll get more that the usual 20% on new parts so not going to push that.

Only fly in the ointment is the financial advisor. LOL

My finger's are X'd for you..............Just remember though, that your future living is more important then a new Harley....The only person that makes out will be your Harley dealer

I know that it sounds wonderful ***A brand new shiny Harley*** but just be sure you have your future living $$$$ in order.... Remember that in less then a year that shiny Harley won't be shiny, and your trying to sell it, cause you need living money... NOT TRYING TO BE "DEBBIE DOWNER HERE" But I did the same thing a few years ago, I bought a new vehicle, now that vehicle is gone, and so is my money ............

When that time comes, the government will be there to take care of all my needs free - right?? That's what it sounds like.

I may kick the bucket next week or next month = I'm not going to put my life on hold - just in case. I think I'm OK. thanks for watching out for me.

WOW!! Don't know how wrong I could have been. I thought maybe I could retire and get a new bike. Not a chance.

Will just barely be able to pay the bills. Bummer.

Advisor said 90% of retirees think the same thing that they have enough money to retire.

    Getting old can get expensive!

I'm 60, Mary is 62. My business partner is 35.

I give him unsolicited advice on a regular basis... Start saving now for the time when you will need to eat but not be able/want to earn $.

Kevin, I preach to any young person i meet [And will listen]......Invest in a tax deferred fund and ''Religiously'' put a set amount in it every pay period....No matter if the market gos up or down....That was the advice that my Boss at the time [1967] imparted to me....And i was able to retire at 57 years old in 2002 doing just that.........

Great advice both of you. I tell the kids the same thing, but it all depends if they listen or not. You can only hit them on the head so many times.

I sure wish I would have saved. Didn't think I'd live this long - no body in my family lived anywhere near my age.

I'm 66 and a Retired DoD Civilian for 10yrs 11mos. I'm forever gratefull to those older coworkers who preached and cajoled me into joining our federally sponsored tax deferred retirement saving plan five years into my career. So glad I heeded their persistance. I always stressed the same to all new youngsters during my working years.

I'm 71 and debt free and I always tell the younger people to start saving now, invest in 401's and what every else you can, you won't regret it, paying for loans at retirement age isn't any good unless you have a good retirement coming in, most don't, some do.

Well GaryD, sounds like you won't be getting the 2019 if I read it right, sorry about that, but at least you have a very low mileage 2014 with the the stuff you like on it.

Exactly what I said in post # 7 but nobody listens....

I retired at age 55 with over a XXX and quarter dollars in stocks (thanks to my father teaching me) now I can buy what I want..... I'm just trying to help you... and all I was was just a city bus driver, with a high school education ....

I was not trying to be a smart azz here, invest your money and you can buy what you want....I won't say anymore about saving your money... I promise...

Ronnie......You ain't kidding me, My Uncle was a bus driver for the Gotham Bus Company in New York City, And he would tell me that after every run he would check under each seat for loose/lost change, And that added up to thousands $$$ every month...

And that enabled him to retire early.......

I was not trying to be a smart azz here, invest your money and you can buy what you want....I won't say anymore about saving your money... I promise...

Ronnie, I didn't say you were a smart ass. I thanked you for looking out for me. You are right and I too only have a high school education - nothing wrong with that.

"UNSOLICITED" I resemble that remark! My Father gave me that kind of advise many times. Sometimes though, advise on other subjects came to me at the end of a belt!

Luckily with three retirements we are in pretty good shape financially, but the Secretary of War still will not let me buy a new Corvette ZR6 or ZR1.
