    Default Gauges

    Hey Brother,

I was going to put them on the '13 I had but there were problems with them at that time and really have no idea of where or not they got those problems fixed or not.

Please let us know if and when you do anything with your gauges because I would still consider going that way if they've been improved.

    Default Dakota Gauge

I replaced my stock gauges on my 2018 Tri with the Dakota Digital Gauges this past summer and have been very happy with them. Much easier to see in the daytime even with sun shining on them. The oil temp. gauge is very interesting to see. Much more so then air temp. Well worth the money.

Is your set the old set, or the new one? I'm not sure when the new ones were introduced.

I have been looking at MCX - 8414 - is that the ones you used? Any pics, installation tips.

    Thanks

    Default Gauges

I installed last years design. It was the newest one at the time. These don't have 31 colors but that's fine. The gauges themselves are the same. Much easier to look at and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

    Default Dakota digital MLX8414 gauges

I just installed these gauges and here is the problem with them. You have to go into your radio setup and shut off your Daylight savings time because the clocks will have different times. Second when I'm in 6th gear my gauge shows 5th. You have to put it in the learn mode to learn your gear.

Does anyone else have any problems?

You'd think for a motorcycle, they would have a user friendly method to calibrate their gauges. Guess intuitive processes are no longer in fashion.

Well, I figured out the gear display. Have to put the gauge in the learn mode and go thru the gears. Works great now. The only thing I have left is figure out why I cant clear my miles to empty. I called Dakota Digital and they have never heard of that before and want me to take a picture of the display and send to them. What's wrong with a good word?

Seeing a lot of that being reported lately. Harley directing dealers to have customers provide photos of gauges that are plagued with issues affecting their clarity. All these discrepancies affecting components, parts or accessories that we've paid our hard earned dollars for.....and included so called Warranties. Just seems like another means employed to "Blow Off" the average customer/compliant.

One thing that a lot of these companies need to do is rewrite the owners manuals. There are a lot of things that are wrong with the manual for the Dakota gauges.

Actually, to be honest - taking a photo of a problem that can actually be photographed is a really good idea. It can save a lot of troubleshooting time by simply showing someone the problem instead of them having to go and see it physically.

You can't really blow someone off by asking for a photo, because everyone carries a camera in their pockets nowadays. They simply take the photo and immediately show it to you.

And if you're trying to do the troubleshooting remotely (like in the case of Dakota Digital), asking for a digital photo is a whole lot better than "send it back in and we'll look at it".

I am planning on installing these gauges - what small gauge did you use for the oil temp. and any problems re/sending unit or the routing of the line to the gauge.

    Thanks

All of that sounds good, when you leave an important part out of the quoted post. That makes it a bit of a misquote

My belief is that the dealer should be the verifying arm of the customer compliant process. When widely known and company acknowledged issues exist, why must owners be required to provide images of these know problems. One can easily do searches here to read about the ongoing saga with issues well documented by dealers and manufacturers.

In respect to the everyone having a cell phone statement; I know seniors who have no cell phones, many drive GM vehicles and rely on "On Star" for Emergency Services, some even refuse to use their on-board GPS Navigation.

Actually, your comments in bold have no impact whatsoever on what I said. So it wan't a misquote.

The issue at hand is with Dakota Digital; not Harley. People are always quick to blame the MoCo, even when they are providing gratis troubleshooting service on third party parts.

As for the cell phone statement.... I call BS on that when it comes to the target audience we are discussing (which isn't cars, it's motorcycles). Any senior who owns a TriGlide and has put third party digital gauges on it will most *certainly* have a cell phone. Hell, any TriGlide owner would have a cell phone. How else would you call for help in the event of a breakdown? If you own a motorcycle, but don't own a cell phone then you are extremely careless.

I for one would love to see some pics of the new style actually on a bike ... and does the phone app make it easier to "program"?
