I ran an oil cooler with fans in the stock position. I did not use the HD oil cooler...it is not nearly as efficient at shedding heat as the Jagg oil coolers.
The one I ran can be seen HERE, and it made quite a bit of difference with the fans in slow moving, and with the oil cooler in general at "in the wind" speeds.
As you can see below, it looks very similar to the factory cooler, just better internal design with the patented HyperFlow Tech with inline Turbulators. btw, HD used to get their oil coolers from Jagg before they cost cut and went to cheaper ones.

I installed a DK oil filter relocation and oil cooler kit on my '13 TG. Didn't make any changes to the factory installed cooler, to see how well this mod would do before I went out and bought cooling fans. I installed an oil temperature gage in place of the worthless ambient air temp gage in the fairing. Riding in the FL winter (Oct - Apr) Oil temps were consistently at 190* - 200*. Back up north the rest of the year OH - PA, even on hottest days, rarely over 230*.
Open the left lower's wind deflector on warm/hot days to get more airflow over the air cooler; close it when the air temperatures get cooler to help maintain somewhat of a consistent oil temp.
Found this was effective and economical, so didn't buy the cooling fans.
