Remaining Mileage vs Gas Gauge
2017 triglide I live in ft Lauderdale fl area decided to make a three day weekend a ride up to Daytona fueld up several times and each time my miles remaining gauge read something different one time it was 200 miles next time it was 150 then another time 168 ca. Someone explain this to me
It tries to learn your mileage, your fillip habits, your riding style, and some other stuff. I believe it actually gets the fuel level by how much the ecm calls for over time, not the gage.
Depending on how much fuel you have used and how much you put in the ECM will auto correct your estimated miles to empty
Keep in mind with a heavy right hand this number will change a lot

You have to fill the tank with ''Exactly'' the same amount of gas each time .. Even if you are off by a few tents of a gallon from each fill up the miles to empty will vary by quite a bit...Don't forget you are only dealing with a 6 gallon tank.. A few tents make a big difference....

My 2017 Freewheeler gauge is off also. When my light comes on and it says I have 50 miles left till empty, I have driven till it was down to 10 miles remaining & stop to get gas & I still have 2 gallons in the tank. I just ignore it now, make sure I fill up completely & just look for gas at 200 miles on the trip meter. When I fill up, my miles remaining usually reads 230-240.Originally Posted by Grumpy7760

Range Indicator
I've learned from owning a few bikes that have the fuel range display. If you top off your tank when you only need a gallon or so, it might not reset at all and will show you the same range as before you topped off. I agree with Rhino... try to be consistent with your fill-ups. Mine will "learn" to be pretty accurate if I let it get pretty low before filling it. I know... hard to do on long road trips when you don't know where you might find fuel, or like me, get uncomfortable when it gets below 1/2 tank.
p.s. You just triggered my OCD. I'll spend the spring and summer keeping a log of my fill-ups and range indications. I'll prepare a report with charts and graphs and submit it as a Master's Thesis.

With the Tri-Glide...........The light comes on when there are 2 gallon's remaining...Then at one gallon remaining the gauge reads/ LOW.....Was that way with both my T/G's...2011/2017....

Thanks lots of good Info and input
After getting either bad fuel or dirt in the nozzle last year (Pigeon Forge), I have been fueling now just prior to getting to 1/4 on the gauge. I guess my thinking is if I get crap fuel it will at least be slightly diluted.
