Making the Fat Bottom Girl an "AMG" Edition.

You do realize that video had the stock headpipe with the cat still in it, you have changed yours to a no cat, now granted the mufflers did sound good on that video, it might be louder on yours with no cat but I think you can add more discs or subract which ever the case to get the sound you want, I would think anyway, fuelmoto could say or even Kevin could tell you.

All for now Trampas

On my 2013 TriGlide I ran the E Series exhaust and had no cat in the header and it definitely is not loud. A bit louder than the stock pipes on my 2018, but still very mellow especially when going down the highway. I had Street Cannons first and hated them (too loud for me).

I'd put them on the new trike but I don't want to void the warranty just yet since I've only had it for about 9 months. You're right in that you can change the number of discs to help with the sound, but if I remember right, that also changes how much torque you get. I think it was less discs for more torque, but I'm old now and can't remember for sure.

Spring working day.

I think it was less discs for more torque, but I'm old now and can't remember for sure.

I resemble that remark ... LOL.

Fuel Moto asked what my configuration is and my understanding is they will provide the right number of disc's for it and the rest won't be installed, we'll see. I will auto tune the map they send, so I suspect I will love these .... a lot..

Okay, so since I'm sliding out of here in a couple of weeks, I decided I better get the swamp cooler and the irrigation pump up and running. If I leave, it WILL turn warm and mom will be calling me every 15 minutes to complain about being hot, my ac unit is already running in my room. I'm not up to listening to her ... so .... I decided to get them up and running.

Since my knee was bad last fall, I didn't clean the Breeze Air pads when I put it to bed ... big mistake. Took twice as long now. But the cooler is up and running.

The irrigation pump has been needing a re plumb for a couple years (Minor leaks in the flex hoses, wanting to hard plumb it) ... since I retired from pool work and have lots of PVC stuff left, I'm gonna do that now ... :D ... Got most of it mocked up and will put it in next decent day.

So ... off the the HD Store, They actually have Redline products at a decent price. Since I haven't done any of the holes on this bike/Trike, I will. This will create a base line for the trike (My dealer does the engine oil on eery bike he sells and it has redline w/shockproof in the tranny already, but I'll start with what I know). When using synthetic I do the engine and primary every 5k and the Transmission at 10K.

I hate how they tape the o-rings to the filter, but, I guess it's better than loosing them. I have a new darby cover gasket, so didn't buy one. I bought one to put the Darby cover on and when I got home, found my spare. I used the spare and will put the newer one on when I do the service. Not sure I need to replace them every service (got lots of friends that reuse the darby cover and o-rings), but it's like $10 for new ones total, so I do.

I will probably wait to do the service until next week ... after I tune the E-series pipes, but before the trip enough to ensure no leaks before I go.

P.S, if you cut the bottom off the Red Line Containers, they make great funnels and they are marked with what was in them ... I store them in zip lock bags until the next service, keeps them clean and they are free. Well, Kind of.

P.S.S. Almost forgot ... Look what was parked at the dealer:

A new one like Kevins and two used ones ... they have two more new on the floor.

Bottom line here is what ever makes Alan happy is what makes us happy. We enjoy your enthusiasm and expertise in your make overs. All kidding aside I could only wish to have the level of your knowledge of both 2 and 3 wheeled motorcycles. I (we) give you a hard time is because we love you

Slow Day

Took a ride ... and watched the dogs.

Did get the map for the stage one air cleaner, de catted head pipe and the E-series mufflers. Fuel Moto sent it as a a service because I bought their mufflers. I still have the Dynojet Jet for a similar configuration.

The mufflers will be here tomorrow. Also, the Extended brake lever and the ISO grips will be here too.

My first priority will be the mufflers ... then the basle lever, then the grips. After that ... I'll do the maintenance up to 15K.

Then I'm gonna ride it :D

Whoooo Hooooo

The E-Series mufflers are on the truck for delivery here in town (I have no delusions about them getting here before around 1pm, my normal FedEx delivery time, certainly not gonna get here in the next few ... it's not even light yet ... :AGGHH:) ... I have the map ... I think this am I will remove the Vance and Hines Twin Slash and be "ready" to install the E-Series mufflers. Or, maybe I'll go on a ride to Montrose for some Long John Silvers ... :D ... tomorrow is supposed to be a nicer day ... so ... I'll probably do the LJS's ride tomorrow.

The extended brake lever and ISO grips are on the truck too ... but UPS is notorious for not delivering until 8pm ish.

Good Day'a Work

Sunny and Warm ... E-series out for delivery, Extended Brake Lever, ISO Grips out for delivery ... good day.

As predicted ... UPS has rescheduled delivery to 6:30 to 8:30, no surprise.

Fedex was still on track, so, pulled the mufflers and got ready.

Couple of tips .. I forgot about "flipping the Mount bars". The way HD has them, with the ears up, makes it really hard to get to the bolt heads. No wonder Don had a hard time. After getting the Vance and Hines Mufflers off I flipped the bars and found the longer bolts.

Here's the ears flipped:

Here's what the bar will look like on the muffler mount:

So ... there I was "All dressed up and no place to go", so, I decided to do my DYI air breather ... i didn't order this from DK, although I probably should have ... LOL. I didn't save any $$$. I already had the drill and tap, I had a filter and some on the fittings in my pool stuff. mainly brass T's, and a brass inlet for the filter. I did need to go to the hardware store and get the fittings that screw into the AC after you drill and tap. I also had the high temp RTV stuff.

So here is what I accomplished:

2019-04-18 10.58.44.jpg

I also found my filter ... hmmm ... gonna need a catch can ... LOL ... I forgot I ran over it and got a catch can for Harley Quinn from DK, which os why I had a filter. Ordered one from DK. In the meantime, I'll use the bent filter. DK ships so quickly I expect it will be her mid next week. Put the air cleaner back together with a new gasket and o-rings.

Here's what my AC looked like after only 700 miles ... this is why I'm doing an external breather:

Okay .. so a new tip ... if you guys don't buy the Harbor freight multi screw drivers ... you should ... these things are great.

61988_W3.jpg

They are great, maybe not the best quality, but really versatile ... if you remove the bits, you get two different size nut drivers ... all I needed for the two sized clamps I used.

2019-04-18 10.39.57.jpg

So ... the E-series came ... didn't take any pics of them going on ... but here they are on:

2019-04-18 13.34.01.jpg

Okay ... so on a a review ...... one word ... WOW ... these mufflers are just maybe a tad louder than the stock and that may actually be the removed cat. Hard to tell. But the wow comes when you ride with them. There is a seat of the pants increase in low end torque, even over the Vance and Hines. Can't quantify it ... My b$tt is far less accurate that a Dynojet, but it is noticeable. And that is with just the tune fuel moto sent. I plan to do a couple tuning runs and see how it looks. If it's not great ... I'll go back to the dynojet tune and tune with that.

On the highway at 80 mph, I had to turn the radio down ... Liking this.

Here's how I was able to do this without Don, found these:

2019-04-18 08.45.23.jpg

Fuzzy, how many discs are you running the E Series pipes with? I think I had 12 on my 2013.

Don't know ... they ask a bunch of questions about configuration and sent them set up ... I think I read somewhere, maybe the receipt, 15 I think. I plan to play around with this, but can't find definitive instructions as to what adding or subtracting discs actually does.

Long John Silver's Run ... with a brake fail?

Okay ... I'm sure lots of you have these on like every other corner, but, here in happy valley, we have two choices, one is 85 miles away in Rifle and one is 65 miles away in Montrose. Probably a good thing or I would be twice my size ... LOL. I love their fish, fish is good for you right? Right? Yea I know, the fried batter stuff isn't, but it sure tastes good. Today I had to bring home 3 chicken planks as the God dog is still with me.

Going there I only got 30.4 mpg ... strange as this is a 65 mph road. I was tuning, and that does affect it some. Didn't give it much thought (had fish on the brain) ... usually I don't fill for this trip, but hadn't filled when I left. Since I got there about 10 minutes before they opened, I filled up.

I pulled into LJS's and got the 2 fish and 3 chicken meal. By being there right as they open .. the fish was right out of the oil hot ... yummy.

Okay so after eating the fish, bagging up the chicken I got back on the FBG to get on home. There is a slight rise to the parking spots, so normally I leave it in neutral, release the brake and roll back out. Today the trike didn't move, so I gave it a push with my feet. Kind of hard to push. Weird, I put it in gear, killed it and checked the parking brake, nope, not engaged. Operated the front brake several times, still didn't want to roll. Operated the rear brake several times and notice it didn't come all the way up. Hmmm ... I pulled it up with my foot and it stayed and the trike rolled freely. Since I hadn't put the tool bags back in the trike yesterday (this is why I carry tool bags), I decided to just be sure to lift it with my foot after use until I got home. Not much brake use on this road.

When I got back to Grand Junction, I filled just to see if the mpg was effected by the brake pedal being "not" up. I got 37.4 ... kind of weird. I would think there would be hot brakes or worn brakes ... no sign of that ... pads look pretty much like they did when I had the wheels off, even the front one.

Since i am replacing the rear brake lever for the Kuryakyn "extended" (Mostly laid down) tomorrow, I decided to look at it then. I did hit some dust a few times on the way down, maybe dirt in the bushing? Broken Spring? Never been greased? Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Other than that, trike ran great, powered right up the hills and ran cool. With air temp at 74*, 68 mph the engine temp was 205-208* ... I can live with that. I can really live with the 37.4 mpg.

MPG

Are you basing your fuel mileage on these runs you make on what the Power Vision is showing, or are you actually filling up each time and dividing mileage by gallons?

It has been my experience with 7 or 8 years of using my PV that the mileage it shows is always higher than actual MPG figured by miles driven by gallons burned. Not unusual to see 3 to 5 MPG difference depending on driving conditions. Actual mileage is always less than indicated by the PV. Just my experience and YMMV.

I have a Supertrapp 2 into 1 single exhaust disc system on my 07 Road Glide and I love it.

MPG

The MPG's I report are based on filling and dividing miles by gallons with each fill being filled to the bottom of the neck. I have three different apps that I keep my records with and one I wrote. They all say the same mpg's.

My program kind of compiles features of all three of the apps into one. It's kind of a hobby and kind of therapy ... LOL.

I like the cross platform functionality of fuelly, but it's notifications are hit or miss.

I love the notifications of Road Trip and the fact you can get a compilation of data for a lifetime or just a trip. But, you can't add pictures of what you do or receipts.

Autosist has the cross platform functionality of fuelly with good notifications albeit cumbersome to update. You can add pictures, receipts, and even custom fields for service items. The down side of this one is that if you do pictures and multiple vehicles, it gets pricy.

So I created my own that is in "Alan" testing. It used to be slow and would loose links to various sub routines. I think I have that fixed, hasn't crashed in like 6 months and is comparable in speed to Autosist. Doesn't sync with my laptop, but I can copy it back and forth through iTunes.

Sorry ... got distracted ... Are you aware that you can "adjust" the mpg read out on PV to closely match what you get by dividing the miles by gallons? You have to modify it in WinPv, but, it's pretty accurate after you "tweak" it ... mine is within like + or - 0.1 mpg, but, I still don't trust it.

Yes, I know the MPG can be adjusted using WinPV but I don't fool with it. I keep up with all of my mileage and gas using Fuelly and my PC. I keep my maintenance records on my PC and back it all up in several places. Luckily I am not "quite" as OCD as you are. If you can keep up the 37 MPG you will be a lucky guy.

Are you tuning the PV in basic AT mode or do you have WB o2's and run auto tune pro or target tune? I ran AT/WB and switched to Target Tune about a year ago based on a Target Tune activated tune from Fuelmoto as a starter.

Just the basic AT Mode.

To be completely clear on the 37.4 mpg, it was on a 65 mile run where I basically set the cruise on 68 mph and almost no stops. There is a short stretch at Delta that you slow to 45 mph. When I get it up to 75-80 mph ... this drops off. I'll find out what the actual numbers are when I do the trip south west in a couple weeks. That will be lots of hours at 75-80 mph going. Like 420 miles.
