Good stuff! For 5k service I used Redline's 20W50 engine oil, primary gear oil and their trans oil w/shockproof. To me, there's a decrease in tranny noise.....

Exactly the combo I used in my ultra, except I used the Syn3 in the engine. I had such great results with the Redline stuff, so probably go with all the redline.

Fuzz a garage of a busy man with things to do and also one with a very sore Knee. If you need help with that garage I will pray for someone to come over and help. Sorry it's a little far for me to get there. ride safe Fred.

    Default What is the trailer?

Congrats on the newTri Glide. Looks like a blank canvas just waiting to be transformed into something spectacular.

I too have a Tri Glide and am trying to find a trailer to transport it. No open/closed trailers made for trikes in the San Antonio area for around $3500. An aluminum enclosed would be ideal ( at least 7x12) but probably too expensive. Towing with 2001 Tacoma with 215,000 miles. (No typo) with a v6 and automatic. We all have to make our choices

Any ideas? What are you using in the pic?

No Aluma, Stand up, been available on Craigs list for several months.

    Thanks,

    Mike

In 1998 my buddy wrecked his boat ... alcohol was involved. There insurance company bought him a new boat and trailer. He gave me the spare trailer with the title for $1, he just wanted it gone. Alan never passes up a free lunch. It sat in my back yard until 2014 when I got my first Tri.

I was nervous about putting a 1200# trike on just any trailer. Since this one has a 3500# axle, I figured it was safe. I cut about 8' off the tongue and all the other boat stuff, and built the "frame".

I decided that 2' square tubing 1/8" wall would be plenty .. turns out it was a bit of overkill. My buddy who welds for a living (I do it cause I'm cheap and it's fun), asked me if my 1 ton dually Ford was gonna go on it. He explained that 1" would of been just fine or even angle iron ... LOL. Anyway, suffice to say it's stout.

As you can see, it's pretty heavy. It's 2' on center with a continuous center support and one where each rear wheel goes.

I added 3/4 ply wood as a floor ... in hind sight I would have liked to use 1/8" Diamond plate. When the wood rots and it will here, I'll replace it with diamond plate.

As you can see, it was made for a tri. Also works really well for any two wheeler. Had to move the python up two inches to get the 08 Honda trike on with room for movement.

My buddy had some aluminum squares and gave me some to use as a rock guard. I just cut them to fit and screwed them in. It was my omage (-5sp) to saving weight.

This pick shows a two wheeler and the rock guard.

The beauty of the boat trailer, it had an adjustable axle, loosen 4 u-bolts, slide it up to 2' in either direction. I adjusted it to sit just under the tranny on the tri. Kept the engine weight on the tongue to offset the ramp weight. That bugger is like 200#, takes two people to put in on the trailer, but once it's on and the rod hinge is in, I can lift it by my self ... I don't take the rod hinge out very often . Another bennie of keeping the weight on the tongue, is I can pick the front up when it's empty and move it around.

I never got a round tuit, but the goal was to sand blast it and powder coat it ... Since I recently came into a round tuit, I think this summer I will remove the floor and get that done. Also been thinking about two Harbor freight aluminum atv ramps bolted together with a hinge that could slide under the tri when not in use. The ramp get old, but it is really safe, 6'x6', so maybe I'll just keep it. My little Toyota pulls it and the tri just fine, even over the Rockies, just can't be in a hurry going up ... 55 mph is about tops up hill, which is okay, I don't tow over 65 mph anyway ... stuff happens too quick at those speeds and since I'm retired, I'm not in a hurry.

    Default Another sunny day.

I got up, coffee and at first light mounted the back rest. As you can see, I haven't mounted the PV (sitting behind the back rest), I just start it tuning and put it in the Kuryakyn Passenger drink holder ... the net and nibs hold it really well. I'm gonna mount it tomorrow, God willing.

    Name: 2019-03-20 08.27.11.jpg
Views: 294

Then I set up for a tuning run and left to do that. Basically went a few miles out of my way to go get my Allergy shots. I had just sat down to "wait to see if I reacted to the shots" (30 minute mandatory dead time) when the sign guy called and my vinyl was ready, told him I'd be there in 45 minutes.

From there I set up to do another tuning run. Did about 20 miles and set that tune to the ecm. From there it was off to Montrose for some Long John Silver's. Was a bit chilly without the electrics, 38*, but dry. Was 56* coming back. Long John's was worth the chill. Especially since it has an A&W in the same space, so I got root beer too.

I did 45 miles of tuning, plus 130 mile round trip to Montrose. My trip meter reeds 175.6 miles with 59 miles left. The gas gauge is at a little over a 1/4. I didn't fill it because, I am taking the tank off tomorrow to route the power vision cable, and the older I get, the less gas I want in that when I move it. I'm curious what the MPG's are. Anything over 30-35 and I'm good.

When I got home I did the GoPro Mount. Just noticed there is a scratch in the windshield ... no biggie, the Windsplitter is going on soon, and I have three OEM ones ... LOL.

I also remembered to get a pic of the digital dipstick and the quick check.

Wanted to do the Calvary darby cover, but, didn't have a new gasket.

Since my knee was starting to swell some, I sat in my chair (plastic patio chair) and used the Honda cleaner and wax to get the water spots and some other stuff off the paint. Went with that because it's quick and first rainy day, I'm doing the ceramic, and the Honda stuff will come off with de waxer. I got all the spots off except for the inner faring when the HD dealer called and said my antenna and stud where in. Since I needed a new darby cover gasket to put the calvary darby cover on, I took a ride and picked that stuff up. I was gonna mount the antenna after I made dinner, but, I ran out of spunk, so tomorrow is another day.

UPS has changed the delivery time of my DK order to between 6:45 and 8:45. I hope it's closer to 6:45 because 8:45 is close to my bed time .. LOL. I may ask my buddy Don to help with the lift kit. I did get on the ground today to remove the hitch bar and ball. The PO had a bolt and nut holding it on that had been drilled and cotter pinned to ensure it didn't come off, but, it's off. I need to modify my "luggage/cooler rack". The gold wing and a vertical receiver and this one is horizontal, not a big deal, just another to do. I was able to get up and down with a little effort, so if he's busy, I can do it myself ... I'll use the crawler and make sure everything is down there with me before I start. So that was my day.

Hmmm ... This wouldn't be the first time ... I have been using the Honda Wax/Cleaner for decades ... Use it on cars, trucks, even boats and campers. What you didn't catch me on was using Harley tools when I did your trike's oil change ... hehehehe ... talk about diversity ... ... That's kind of like a cat kissing a dog ...

Just for the record ... UPS showed up at like 6:46 ... so my DK order is here and ready to be installed. When I opened the box and was drooling over the goodies ... LOL ... I had a thought ... Maybe I'll put the tri on the trailer and do the lift kit there. The front wheel would be in the Phython. It would be higher, not me laying on the ground. Just not sure about jacking it up while on the trailer. Guess it'd be okay. I would attach the trailer to the truck for stability.

While on the subject ... yea I know, I yak a lot, when I was posting about the trailer, and the floor. It occurred to me that maybe I could make the floor removable under the engine and rear end. Put the tri on it, remove the panels, voila, lift ... LOL. My thought was to bury a metal pole with a 2" ball in the area I park the trailer. Make the height adjustable so I could level the trailer. Pull the trailer in nose first by hand, attach it to the pole ball and lower the ramp .. work station. I would need to "fill in the area between the concrete runners for the wheels with concrete also so I wasn't on gravel. Right now it's just two runners 2' by 10 feet to get the trailer wheels off the gravel in the winter. I did that when my toy hauler sat there. Of course, if I did that, I could build a carport type roof over it so I could work in shade ... .

Okay ... I think I just talked myself out of that ... maybe just clean out the garage ... and build a lift stand like someone here already did ... I kept the plans for that.

    Here's what I kept:

    My dimensions:

2x12 boards for sides and ends

each section is 2 feet x 64 inches with 4 sections with a ramp

Ramp is 6 feet long, don't make it any shorter or you will drag, 3 sections under ramp for support.

Called for 3/4 inch ply wood, I used 21/32 inch

It is stackable. Once you have the trike/bike on it you can remove the 2 center sections for getting under for work.

Cost was $145, cost may differ

I used the cut off pieces for the 2x12 for extra support where the jack goes in 2 locations.

I can't remember who posted that (for that I'm sorry you need to get credit for this ... great idea) ... now that I have a round tuit ... I'm gonna build this. It is on the to do list. If the original poster of this work station recognizes the design, please post the pics again ... it was a kewl idea.

    .

I have used the Honda Cleaner / wax for years too. Works great and a lot cheaper than the Harley Cleaner / Wax. Started using it when I rode Honda's and kept using it when I started riding Harleys. Course now when I buy it I carry along a plain brown paper bag to carry it home in so know one sees me with it.
