Making the Fat Bottom Girl an "AMG" Edition.

Yea ... Sunny Day

Sunny and 69*

Took the trike to Occupational therapy. Now they think I may have Corpal Tunnel Issues ... Gotta seep with a brace ... and a mask ... LOL ... Old age ain't for sissies.

Decided to put the boards and relocates on. Doing this, on the ground ,,, I made the right choice about giving up pool work. No way I can regularly get on the ground.

Then I did the highway pegs, not sure I like the long offset, might need to go with the short, but, I'll try these for a bit:

I also did the one shift lever, kind of like the single lever

Shifter.jpg

I then went for a little ride ... not too shabby.

The 2462 pulses for the speedo calibration seem pretty good .. PV says I'm getting 36.6 mpg ... we'll see when I fill.

When I got home ... my buddy Don called and wants to come over and do the lift kit ... gonna be a long day.

Alan, I like the long offsets on our trike. I can put my heel on the board and the front of my foot on the highway peg for another position to put my feet.

Yep ... did that on the ride ... I can also put my heal on the top of the peg and be like fully stretched ... open the switchblade and be yet another position. :D

One last thing I thought I'd bring up as a "tip" ... when I do an install, I put the removed parts in a bag with the instructions for the install ... if I ever trade, I can go back the way it was. (no Carla .. I'm keeping this one ... :D)

I used these for my pool business ... got a box of like 1000 for $20 .. I think at Grangers ... now I use them for parts storage.

Lift Kit

Don got here around 3:30 and we were done by 5 and that includes clean up. Job went really easy ... we could not get a torque wrench on the shock bolts ... so ... we practiced on a bolt in a vice and then "torqued" them ... everything else we got torqued properly.

Here is a before measurement:

After:

After.jpg

Here's some pics of Don working ... I tried to get under there and my knee said nope.

I did not get to ride after the lift was finished, so I'll do that today (dang ... I HAVE TO GO ON A RIDE ... dang the bad luck.

Looking at the picture ... the before and after pictures ... I need to go out and measure again ... in inches ... might be a camera angle thing, but, the picture kind of looks like there is 2-3" of lift at the fender. Hmmmmm ... maybe it needs to "settle" as I ride.

I really need to clean up the garage .. can't find my 150 foot pound torque wrench ... I torqued the wheel lugs to 75# .. max on the middle torque wrench I could find. If I don't find it this morning, I'll take the trike to Big O and have them torque them to 90-100#.

A friend of mine manages one ... I always tip the techs when they do the tire pressure, torque wheel lugs or any other service, not much, like $5 ... LOL ... they like me there ... so they are happy to see me. I just figure these guys appreciate someone treating them human. I worked retail for like 18 years and I can attest, people can be brutal. They expect and truly believe that you work for them ... which you do ... but, they threat you like their slaves. So, I try to treat them as I would have liked to be treated.

I had one customer that had a huge job, total repipe of the pool and add an automatic cover. He had just bought the house and it was a "fixer upper". I bid the job at $12,500 and that it would take 5 weeks (two after the cover arrived). Two weeks into the job, he comes to me and asks if I could get the pool running in a week. Seems his daughter wanted to have a birthday party around and in the pool. I asked Don to help and the two of us pulled it off, including the cover which arrived early. Monday after the pool party, the customer comes into the store and hands me an envelope. In it was a Lowe's gift card for $100. He said he just wanted to let me know he appreciated me and thought since I probably use lots of tools, Lowe's would be a good bet ... I never forgot that. Made me feel appreciated.

In true fuzzy fashion ... LOL ... I digress ... Imagine that.

I do still need to check the headlight adjustment. No rush ... I very rarely ride at night.

Sunny Tuesday

Okay ... so today was overcast and chilly to start ... and I was a little bummed, but, God came through and it ended up being sunny and like 70*. I took advantage of the chilly morning to do some changes.

First off ... I realized why I liked the Streamliners more than the Kuryakyn boards. The Kury's are very long and covers most of the emergency brake.

Shifter.jpg

So ... I swapped everything out for the Streamliners

As you may have noticed, I also went to the heal/toe shifters.

I took the digital dipstick apart and rotated it so the LCD is readable:

More later ... I gotta go cook dinner ... :D

Extremely Nice!!

Looks Great and more Functional......

TOE DOWN...TOE DOWN...!!!

HEEL UP...HEEL UP!!

Remember this chant to help you with shifting my Gold Wing?

I’m surprised you went to the heel/toe shifter after saying you didn’t like it when you drove my Gold Wing at Kerrville last October.

What prompted you to put one on FBG?

And you decided you didn’t like the switchblade highway pegs? I love mine.

Or were you just trying to blend in with the looks of the foot boards....

She looks good now...it all matches.

What I didn't like about yours ... the Gold Wing mounting location requires a big guy to bend his knee back to be in the middle ... with my knees ... not a good thing ... :AGGHH:

I like the mini boards almost as much as the switch blades ... I may switch out to the short offsets to allow me to stretch out my legs ... I also need to find my extended shift arms ... I know I still have them ... but, the OEM are fine for now.

Sunny Tuesday, con't.

Did the AMG Edition stuff ... didn't like the anchor on the trike (Mainly because when I put the Gorilla tape on, I didn't do such a good job trimming it ... Probably order a new one ... only like $4.75)

I have one left, to put on the Trunk ... but ... the Sun Came out ... I got excited ... and got busy looking for my 125# torque wrench ... I did find it ... I was using it to hold the three section tool box lid open ...

I did a measurement on the comfort lift ... full 2". Very strange ... thought you were only supposed to get 1.25". Had me worried, so I got my fat b$tt on the ground and checked every thing out. All looked good, nothing binding, bolts in the right holes ... I give up.

Torqued the Lugs and went for a ride. Figured I'd stay around for a few miles incase and do a "typical" tuning run, but all was well. I decided to do a couple of highway tuning runs.

Went to Green River, Ut. about 110 miles. I tuned the whole way, saved it, started a new tuning run, filled up and headed back.

Going I had a fair tail wind and got 36.6 mpg at 75 mph. Coming back, I had a head wind the whole way. Only got 33.1 MPG.

Between Grand Junction and Green River there are some significant hills (In Texas y'all would call them mountains ... :D ... around here ... anything under 8k is a foot hill. They don't call the Rockies "The Continental Divide" for Nothing). Anyway, I set the cruise at 75 mph, reset the trip b to zero and headed out, I found the tune I used on the 15 tri with 0 for the speedo pulses. With 0 for the speedo, it defaults to the HD cal. That's the tune I've been using and tuning for this tri (Important to note, this tri has a HD stage one air cleaner and OEM exhaust). So, based on the measured mile posts, the speedo is dead n$ts. i had to reset it at the boarder, but, it was right on after that too.

Here is the weird part, and maybe someone can explain this to me, cause I'm at a loss. With the cruise set at 75 mph, the FBG flew up these hills. Nn the longest and steepest, just west of Mack, it only dropped to 74 mph, then came right back. About 10 miles into Utah, I came up on one of those triple trailer rigs .. I hate those. I took it out of cruise and hit the throttle .. slight incline, but, fairly long. I got to 85/90 pretty quick and flew past the rig, on the other side, I put it back in cruise.

So here is the question, am I supposed to be able to make that kind of "guiddy up" with the OEM slip ons? I have always .. with every Harley I've ever owned, done the stage one and slip ons like day one. I love the quiet ... yep getting old ... could the PO have "modded" the OEM slip ons with some quiet, power producing baffles??? i looked, they don't look like they have been cut or drilled .. just weird. Is there any bad effects the OEM's could have on the engine with the stage one, I'm thinking the Power Vision will just tune accordingly ... Let me know your thoughts.

My first tuning run of the day I did a "typical" run, some in town, some in country, some highway. Here's what the data log looked like:

PV .jpg

When I got back, I fond a cheap glasses case and mounted it in the trunk. Be interesting to see if the glasses stay there.

Glasses.jpg

So that was my day. My dealer called and my tour pak power port is in, I'm gonna see if they have a Stream Liner little brake pad ... if not, i'll order one from eBay.

Sunny Wednesday

I am getting into this "digging in the garage thing" (I'm not taking time to clean, just digging). Look what I found all wrapped up in bubble wrap in a box.

2019-03-27 10.52.29.jpg

Won't have time to install it today, but, it will be on soon.

I did get the trunk AMG thingie installed:

R.jpg

I was messing with the security system and realized the PO has changed it. I don't know what it is. So, the HD dealer is gonna contact the PO (and get it from him). And set it to something I know. Also, while it's there, they will program the passing lights to stay on with the Hi Beams. I am going on a ride in the meantime.

Ummm...all I can say is THAT IS TOTALLY AWESOME!! (The AMG thingie)

Did some riding until about 1, then tried to change my own pin. Once again my dealer had no clue and told me I needed the previous pin to change it. Instruction never had a step for inputing the old pin, just having a fob around. Worked fine.

I did stop in and they did program the passing lights too stay on with the high beams and the washed it .. $29 to program it, but, it's cleaner than it's ever been, well since I owned it, the over the mountain dirt is gone, so I was happy, tipped the wash boy $5.

Wish the ceramic stuff was here ... e a good start to the prep.

Yep, the "hills" and mountains in Colorado are Fantastic Riding!!!!

OEM mufflers do hold back some of the power, conversely, many aftermarket mufflers REDUCE power felt at the rear wheels.

Every good change is additive (free flowing air cleaner, free flowing pipes, tuner, etc.).

Your bike tested out very well on the leak down. All else being equal, the less leak down, the more power. You'd be surprised how many low mileage trikes are running around with 4-8% in the leak down, and a BUNCH of them at 10% or higher.

Also, remember, it is still cool weather and they always run stronger in cooler weather.

So, no, it does not surprise me that you were able to get to 85/90 pretty quick with the OEM mufflers. Would it have been a bit quicker with good aftermarket mufflers...yeah, but possibly not enough to have even been very noticeable, unless you were actually timing it...ie. 3 seconds instead of 4 seconds...which is 25% faster...but would you notice it absent actually timing it?

You are not doing any damage by running the OEM with your open air cleaner and tuner. It might run a few degrees hotter. Other than that, nothing detrimental to the engine.

I'm still thinking I will do the

Fuel Moto E-Series Chrome FLH Slip On Mufflers

All I've read about them seems to be exactly what I want, quiet, good power production ... I'll probably do them when I do the cat less head pipe ... yep ... got one of those as well ... LOL ... gonna need Don's help with that ... right now, having a ball just bering on the Tri.

Having to pace myself some ... yesterday my new knee was a tad swollen and a tad tender ... me thinks I over did it a bit ... ice and rest is the key. :D

Forgot ... my T-shirt order came ... way kewl

Tri Front.jpg

Tri Back.jpg

I got 8 for like $170 including shipping ... They also sent me this:

Free.jpg

The way this thing works ... the more t's you order the cheaper they are ... the ones I had done were like $42 for the first one, they dropped to $36 after the second ... etc.

SO, if I order 1 t and use this promo, I'll get 6 for like $42 ... not too shabby.

Gonna take FBG somewhere pretty and get some nice pics and then use the card ... :D ... that way it will be actual pictures of my Tri .. very kewl
