Congratulations on making the modification to the Adjustable Tour Pak Relocator.

I'm very much interested in seeing pics of how the wiring is reconnected. Also, how to prevent it from being stretched out or under too much tension from back and forth adjustable movements?

Thanks, the wires are held in my case by zip ties so there is just one bundle, then the filler pad has two velcro straps that I looped around the bundle on each side. There is plenty of wire and the velcro helps keep it from getting pinched. I didn't take any pics ofd that (didn't think it was a big deal, but, I will.

The only mod I needed to make was the notch I discussed previously.

Here's what it looks like from the back:

Here it is pushed fully forward:

Here it is all the way back:

The only issue is that to "use the full 3" with the pet palace, I am going to need to make a spacer to get the pet palace a little higher, so the corners don't poke into the speakers. I'm thinking a some sort of bag or pillow case type thing that I could put all of His Royal Highness' stuff in ... LOL.

    Default Some more info

One last thing that I eluded to last night. With the tour pak in the back position, there is room to put on or remove the arm rests.

I'm not wild about the look with the arm rests removed, but, I like the look less with the arm rests. you can still see the mounts, but, I'll live with that.

So a little of a review. Obviously with the rain, I haven't ridden with it.

I timed it, not racing, just operating it in a normal speed. Takes right at 45 seconds to "unlatch" the four latches, pull it back and "relatch" the four latches.

Going the other way was right at 45 seconds too.

Compared to taking the tour pak off and moving it ... that's pretty significant.

So, the look. The tour pak actually sits about an 1' to 1.5" higher. That's gonna take a few to get used to. Kuryakyn has put a fancy chrome filler piece on the back to hide it and that helps. The sides are clean. I might look into the filler piece with the LED lights offered by DK to fill the gap, maybe drill some holes in the chrome to mount it ... that's the problem with modding something ... LOL ... it becomes a slippery slope ... .

Okay, I had some concerns about where to grab the tour pak to "slide" it. I tried several places, the luggage rack, pushing it from the front, and opted for putting my hands on the corners, were the LED light strip on the back, is and gently lifting while pulling back or pushing forward, it slides very smoothly. The gentle lift takes the weight off the mechanism. I can do it with one finger on each hand so, it's not at all tough to do.

About the cost. If you are riding mostly with a co rider and don't mind keeping the tour pak back all the time, I don't recommend it. Kuryakyn gets $349.99 for it, I was lucky and found a guy with only one left on eBay (New in the box) for $299.99 with free shipping. For a guy like me that isn't wild about the look of the TP being back all that much, at $300 it was worth it for me. As, I've said many times before, Harley's are merely a down payment for accessaries. But, so is a Gold Wing if you are like me and want your ride to be unique to you .

If you are referring to the Kuryakyn passenger drink holder, that came with the bike ... if it's the one on the pet palace, that came with the pet palace. Either way ... he'll have planty to drink ...

Thanks for showing the wiring pics....I like the look of the Adjustable Tour Pak Relocator and looks like it's going to work really well for you.

I also had to remove my Kuryakyn Filler Pad in order to use the Sheepskin Seat Cover. Both wouldn't tuck in like I wanted at the back of the seat. So put the stock pad back on, but only planned to use the Sheepskin anyway for long distance travel, unless the "dog days of summer" changes that.

Yes ... I think this may be the best money I've spent on the Trike so far ... maybe top 5 ...

Default There be blue skies with fluffy clouds here

Couldn't help myself. Even though it was only like 48*, I decided to do some highway speed tuning. I did 5 runs of 15+ miles. Started with 12% learned and after 5 runs was down to 7% learned ... guess I have some more to do ...

Good thing I enjoy just riding it ... cause I may have another 5-10 runs left to get down to almost nothing.

    Default No Geezer's today ...

Had to help a friend with some Estate paperwork for her father's estate. Good news ... got to spend some time with the God Dogs ... the one that had surgery is doing great, running jumping and generally having a ball.

    Default Tuning

I was hoping to get the tuning done, alas, I did two highway runs (20 miles each). I headed west from my house, after 20 ish miles, the black clouds came over the Colorado Monument. Wasn't sure it was gonna rain, but I didn't want to take any chances. I know, I know, I'm getting old ... LOL.

Did get two good runs, and I'm still in the 11% learned range. I'm thinking maybe two more runs and be done with it ... gotta get my trailer built ...

Default Speaker trim and Pet palace protection.

Had some time this morning before Don helped with the electrical on the trailer, so decided to mount the Rear Speaker Trim I had and come up with something that would protect the speakers when the Pet Palace is sitting on the rear seat. Even with the tour pack back three inches and a 2-3" pad under it, it is still tight with my fat b$tt on the rider seat and the back rest I'm not willing to part with. The corners of the Pet Palace would have poked holes in the speakers, IMHO.

    Here is the speaker trim:

    Name: Rear Speaker Trim copy.jpg
Views: 369
Size: 363.6 KB

Next, how to protect the plastic mesh and cloth from being pushed in while the Pet palace is in the seat.

I took a stroll through the magic garage to see what might work ... I found two "moving men", the plastic discs that allow any one to move a huge dresser by themselves, and thought, with a little Alan mod, they should protect the speakers.

Here's the mod, notice the little notches in the orange foam I made:

    Name: Rear Speaker Guards 1.jpg
Views: 369
Size: 346.0 KB

Here's the way they fit after the mod. They actually snuggle up to the speaker and there's enough substance to keep the pet palace from piercing them:

    Name: Rear Speaker Guards 2.jpg
Views: 358
Size: 335.8 KB

They stay there by themselves ... I doubt if you moved the Tri they would stay there. But, they will stay there until i get the pet palace on the seat. I did find a "Throwable Cushion", Life Preserver that will sit on the seat to raise the pet palace up 2-3" so the straps will be more effective", and put the pet palace in an area where there is "more room" for it. The speakers are closer together at the bottom than the middle:

    Name: Pad.jpg
Views: 366
Size: 54.3 KB

Another benefit of this cushion is that since I hope to never need a life preserver while riding the Tri (ya never know), I plan to remove the cushion and fill the cover with "My Pillow" in a plastic bag, incase of rain. I really hate Hotel pillows, probably because I go to cheap Hotels ... LOL.

I have GOT to take the 3.5-4.0 hour ride and see this magical garage!! The things you keep finding in there are amazing to me. Seriously though, we’ve enjoyed “watching” you make the trike your own.

I was taught everything I know from Mom, she has a magic room. I'm afraid to go in there . Really scary. But, whenever i need something, I say, "I need to go to the hardware store and get a toilet flapper." (or whatever I need). Mom goes into the room, closes the door, there is a lot of strange noises, the door opens and she comes out with a flapper. Magic. At least the garage has little paths that I can walk around on. Like mom's magic room, I pretty much know where everything is. ... Generally, there's a Harley Section, Gold Wing Section, and a Universal Section. The back left quarter is everything I took out of the toy hauler ... lots of camping stuff. In the very near future (next week or so), I'm gonna box up the good stuff, mark it, and store it ... probably never find any of it again ...

    Default Geezer Day

I was amazed at the amount of new faces ... and the lack of old ... not sure I can keep doing this.

It was still fun getting my b$tt kicked ... one of the new guys said next week they want to play poker ... if they are playing for real money ... I'm not playing ...

Okay ... so what is the wacko guy from Colorado up to???

There is about only one thing about the Rushmore's I didn't like. The addition of the "Base Tunnel" to the tour pak. Not sure that's what Harley calls it, but I'm talking about the hole in the tour pack that allows the Boom from the speakers in. Maybe I'm old ... maybe it's because my hearing loss is in the higher frequencies, so I turn the volume up and the boom is louder ... but whatever the reason ... I hate the boom boom boom.

I've done this to three Rusmore's now and it works. I remove the tour pak liner (remember to support the lid when you remove the retainer).

Next remove one of the rear speaker pockets and the black plastic tunnel. Then make yourself enough circles of some kind of material (I used indoor outdoor carpet because I have lots of its left from a camper I recaropeted for a friend, 10 circles) to fill the tunnel width.

I also draw on one of them with a sharpie so I don't see brown, or at least much brown ... . Then I use a thin tape, in this case bandage tape, to make an X to hold them in place. Bandage tape is pretty thin and holds well, if it's thick tape it will mess with the gaskets for the tunnel.

    Here's it from the front

Next gently put the tunnels through the gaskets

Got some weird glare on the right one. Using carpet or some other cloth, allows some of the sound through and blocks some. Having done this before, 5 discs per tunnel of that carpet is just right for my ears. It is somewhat adjustable.

Okay, so why doesn't the wacko just lower the base in the audio controls??? Because then when I switch from speakers to headsets, I have to adjust it back. This way I set it once and I'm done.

Alan, I don't remember if you stated if your hydraulic clutch fluid had been changed before you took ownership ?

If not this might be something to think about soon

The brake fluid and clutch fluid was replaced late March or early April ... when they did the passing light program ... they were still offering discounted service hours so I just had them do it. (them being HD Dealer)

Default Remember the Honda Luggage Rack I converted?

Well ... I pulled into the garage and saw the action packers on the trailer ... Hmmm ... an idea ... LOL

Wonder if a single action packer would fit on the luggage rack? If so, it would provide some extra storage (CPAP & Coffee Pot/Coffee) for shorter trips ... maybe even for a little longer trip.

Unfortunately the action packer was bigger than the rack. Fear not .. the magic garage came through .. LOL.

I found the piece of the front storm door I cut out to enable the dog door to fit in it ... since the storm door was thin sheet metal, I replaced the bottom half with 3/8" Marine grade plastic. So, was this piece big enough to fit on the rack and fill it so the action packer would fit level? Yep.

    Here's the result:

I had to notch the plastic to allow the bunnies to hook on to the luggage rack. You can just barely see the plastic. the bunnies prevent the action packer from sliding around, but, I may opt for a racketing nylon strap to be safe. In any event, It should work. I also found a shorter cable to lock it to the rack ...
