I was at my vet's the other day, a friends dog dislocated her knee and will require surgery ... I'm in my friends will to get the dog if anything ever happens to her owner. So, I'm kind of like a God Parent ... LOL.
Anyway, while there, I asked the vet if he had any ideas to help my little guy drink water.
In case you didn't know, I have a one eyed Yorkie (He lost his eye attacking my 120# Rottweiller/Lab mix. My Yorkie, Harley, is like 5# and like his human isn't very bright.)
Harley will put his face into the water, take a drink and then cough and sneeze because he has gotten water in his nose.
The vet said with the loss of his eye his depth perception isn't so good anymore. And because the water is clear, he may not see the level. His recommendation, a single drop of food coloring in his bowl of water.
I've been doing this for 4 days and his sneezing/coughing post drinking has significantly lessoned. Just thought I'd post this incase anyone else has a pet with this issue. The vet said this is somewhat common in older animals as well as one eyeds ... LOL
Here's what it looks like with a single drop of combined green and yellow (I had a little yellow and a little more green)"
And yea ... after I took the pic I realized his food tray needed cleaning
Here's Harley, the one eyed wonder mut:
He's the cute little guy in the pouch, not the ugly dude that hauls him around.
