Default Road Zeppelin Air Seat ?

HI all,'I have a 2018 Tri Glide, I am looking to replace my stock seat with a more comfortable seat, I have narrowed it down to a RZ air seat or the Mustang seat.

Any one on here install the RZ seat? The instructions state you may need to move the tour pak, here is a excerpt from the instructions:

Tour-Pak may require being moved slightly back in order to install the seat.

My wife fits comfortably with the room now with the tour pak in it's current position.

It's a pricey seat to say the least. Any recommendations on the installation and other seats would be welcomed. I did stop into a local HD dealer today 70 miles from me (local) to see what they had in stock to check out, they did not have a Hammock or Tall boy or RZ ir seat.

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott

I've had 2 Tri-Glides and would not recommend a mustang seat on the Harley -- on the other hand I've had 4 softails and would highly recommend a Mustang seat for the softail frame --

    Default RZ Seat

I have a 2018 also and installed a RZ seat before a trip to Alaska. Very comfortable and it helps to be able to adjust the pressure settings. Your tour pack is probably in the rear position already so that won't be an issue. I had Mustang seat on previously but decided on the switch. Glad I did and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I had the Zep on my 15 ... it fit great with no mods ... don't know about the 18. If I remember, you will need an electrical connector.

Most comfy seat I've ever owned ... and will put one on my 14 at some point ...

    Here's the 15:

    Hope that helps.

I've always felt the key to comfort is changing what your doing ... highway pegs ... boards instead of pegs ... changing the "feel" of the seat ... being able to add or subtract pressure to change the feel is awesome.

Another plus is the Zep is really wide and a little deep. You really feel planted in it in the corners.

Just noticed ... I can see floor in my garage ... that was a while ago ... LOL.

Each to his own and as they say 'there is a seat for every butt.' With that being said I added a heated Mustang saddle to my '18 TG and the wife and I love it. I've ridden other bikes (two wheelers) of friends that had the Road Zep seat and did not like it because it seemed to 'spread' me too much. I'm not all that big but do have a 30" - 31" inseam so I'm not really short - just average. Now on a two wheeler the spreading meant my feet weren't planted as solidly on the ground at stops. Not an issue on a trike but I just didn't like the feel of it. Other than that the comfort was great.

That is an issue on a two wheeler ... a friend of mine put one on his ultra and hated it because he couldn't slide side tossed in the curves without packing a lunch. None of that is an issue on a trike ... but your right ... there is a seat for every b$tt ... like there's an oil for every mechanic.

HD does have a "trial program", not sure the Zep is part of it.

Default My junk kills me when I ride

The real issue is I am 6'2 275lbs and my "junk" gets crushed and has a tendency to ruin the ride, any idea how embarrassing it is to pull up to a ice cream stand after along ride and jump off with kids and women around and you are in agony! lol you cant adjust... sorry for the details but this is a issue. Dear lord.......

From October through January I demoed a Mustang Super Touring and several Harley Seats, including the Road Zeppelin. Really liked the comfort and adjustability of the RZ, but did not like that I sat higher and I also needed a seat that would move me at a minimum 1.5" further back. Unfortunately, the RZ didn't work for me.

I have found you cannot go wrong with Mustang seats. They can get one to fit you, and even give you 30 days of ride time to get it right. Now to do that, you have to call the Mustang company itself, because any other dealer you buy from won't give you the ride guarantee.

If any dealer near you is involved in Harley's and Mustang's Seat Demo Programs, then you can "try before you buy" using any demo seat in their program. To use a RZ demo seat, all 17-later models require an Electrical Harness Extension P/N 69201599A to plug into the seats electrical connector.

I am a big fan of Mustang seats. Had one on my 2000 Road King and transferred it to my 2005 CVO Electraglide when I traded for it. That Mustang Seat ended up with well over 100K miles on it and felt as comfortable as new when I traded the 2005 in for a Victory Cross Country Tour. Couldn't get a Mustang seat for the Victory at the time so ended up with an Ultimate seat which was OK but not as good as the Mustang. When I bought my 2015 FW I tried a Harley Sundowner seat; better than the stock seat but not as good as a Mustang. Bought a Mustang for the FW. Have never had a RZ seat so can't compare but I have always been happy with Mustang seats.

I had a Mustang seat for my Yamaha Vstar 1300 and my Yamaha royal star tour deluxe. Yamaha has the WORST stock seats of any bikes I've ridden. Stock Harley seats are nice in comparison to yamahas. I rode on a stock Harley seat the first 4 years owning my TG. Didn't even think of getting something else until a tear started developing. Found a Mustang Regal touring seat at a good price and took a chance on it. Glad I did...it's the most comfortable bike seat I've ever ridden on. Rode about 200 miles total one day last week and I was comfortable the whole way.

I wouldn't even think on leaving the garage without the RZ seat. I've tried many seats and had many seats in my 60 years of riding. Conclusion = ANY static(nonadjustable) seat will be uncomfortable after so many miles. Period!!

Gel pads or air pads will help - - some, but still not as comfortable as a fully adjustable seat.

    Expensive- yes, Worth it YES

I've done week long trips and a few SS1000 challenges. RZ seat was fantastic.

Drawbacks = wider (not an issue on a TG) and will sit you a little closer to the windshield and makes it a little harder to get to the bolt holding the seat down. I just leave the bolt out - seat isn't going anywhere.

I can adjust it to where I can see over the windshield or lower it to see through it.

Do you know someone that has a RZ seat that might let you test it??

    Good luck in finding something

Have a look at Ultimate Seats - I have a 2018 Tri Glide with an Ultimate Seat and backrest - very comfortable for passenger [larger for passenger than stock] and rider - had one on my softtail as well.

    Default I Forgot

A good friend gave me an Air Hawk seat pad last year ... only done one trip with it since then ... I'm not gonna need a zep ... that thing is awesome ... the trip I did make, I alternated having it on and off every fuel fill ... kind of the same as the Zep.

    Thanks Paws ...

I had extended demo rides on Harley Tall Boy, Hammock, Road Zeppelin, Sundowner Smooth Deep Bucket Rushmore and Pre-Rushmore seats, and one Mustang Super Touring Seat. There were some things I liked about each, but none met all my needs for complete comfort in the tailbone reigon and to be moved back at least 1 1/2" to get my knees lower.

I finally settled on an Ultimate Tall Boy Seat. The rider seat is 17 inches wide, passenger seat is 15 1/2 inches wide and it's a full 1" longer than the stock seat. Most importantly, it is the same height our stock seat and moves me 1 1/2 inches back from the bars. It has a built-in backrest mount and the optional backrest is very well padded and includes a zippered pouch. They have a 14 day trial period, return if not satisfied. Of course transportation each way is on the buyer!

I've had a RZ on my 2014 since day one.

I love it and would never go back to riding without it.

No need to remove the tour pak or any other modifications.
