    Default Comfort lift

Well just ordered the DK comfort lift.

Don't know why, This 2019 ultra rides "nice", But have to try it, ( "I've got this problem",, with not being able to leave, things, alone.) With all the positive review's, don't see how you can go wrong..

I haven't heard anyone review it on a 19 ... but ... even if all it does is level the rear and get rid of the "load in the shorts" look ... it's with it. I ordered the lift kit and the rider floor board relocators before I picked the Tri up ... LOL.

Well, I got the lift on. 2-hrs.

Don't think it was ever put on the new 2019's....

Did it per there instructions and it would not go to the full lift hole, was able to "persuade" it in the first hole. thinking the new style of shocks is the reason. ( the shocks were completely relieved as far as they would go)

It raised it 3/4'' at the pipes it went from 6 1/2'' to 7 1/4'' took it out and it was a little stiffer, but it was with me only. before I change the shock setting (23) will ride with the wife and compare the difference. Just wanted to keep things the same to compare. kinda of disappointing at this point. I'm sure if Kevin puts it on his, the instructions will be up dated.

Have read of people putting it on there 2019 with good results but they also put the new shocks on from Kevin and got rid of the stock ones, maybe somebody will chime in when they see this, pretty sure I seen it on this website, might want to do a search.

    All for now Trampas

P.S. I know Kevin will be putting them on his trike but it will ahwile before he does, he wants to test the harley shocks out first and then I'm sure he will go with the lift and shocks that he sells.

We have well over 100 Customers that have put the Convertible Comfort Lift™ on their 2019 HD Trikes with the OEM shocks.

Use the adjustment knob under the seat to get the shocks set to the best (most comfortable) setting. This will be different with the Comfort Lift™ than without it.

The lift puts the shocks at a bit of an improved angle. They cannot help but function better due to improved articulation...but they do need to be adjusted...and don't follow the settings in the manual. See video below-

Took A 150 mile ride with the wife, She said it did ride better and there was a little less effort in the steering, both a plus! I did not want to change any settings for the comparison between the two. OK, (I am satisfied with the results.) I will be trying different shock settings. I know how to set the shocks, Thanks for the video. one issue was the instructions say's DON'T FORCE THE ALIGNMENT, the full lift hole was way off, so per instructions, I used the first hole and still had to use a punch to pull it back to line up, using a C-clamp to hold it till I could put the bolt in. And I did make sure the rear end was down.

Did the others with the 2019 get to the full lift?

Kevin, I want to personalty thank you for all the viedo's you do with these trikes, they sure help! (and fun to watch, always learning something new)

Just trying to see if I could of missed something.

Kevin did you talk to Deryl?

He knows all the details with the issue I had to correct before install...........

That's great to hear that the ride is better for you and your wife!

Yes, I spoke with Dwayne a day or so ago, did not realize it was you til just this afternoon. Thank you for your patience and get-er-done in dealing with what got past our quality control. Seriously, thank you!

I was speaking with Devin early today, and we have already made changes in our procedure to hopefully prevent that type of thing slipping by us again.

Regarding the convertible aspect (two sets of mounting...full lift and secondary) of the Comfort Lift™. Starting with the 2017 M8 based trikes, it is very rare for any of them to get the "full" lift. So, not many, if any, 2019's use the full lift. This is because HD changed the exhaust header on the right side, directly below the swingarm. The big bulging weld prevents the swingarm from dropping low enough to use the full lift, thus the secondary is there for those situations. I do not know of anyone with a '19 using the full lift.

It does not hurt anything for the swingarm to contact the exhaust while sitting unloaded. The minute one gets on the trike it sags a bit and comes off the protruding weld. Some folks even grind a bit of the offending bulbous weld down a bit.

Sounds like you have everything sorted. Might yet find an even better shock setting for a more improved ride.

    Ride Free,

So lt sounds like I shouldn’t even try to use the top hole on my 2018 putting on new lifts and the 14” shocks? Is it worth trying o not enough difference to matter?

It only takes an extra 10 minutes if you try and it does not work...so I would give it a go...HD is not making all the welds the same, some are much more bulbous than others. So there is a possibility that it will fit on your '18 with the 14" Trike Series Shocks.

There is very little possibility on the '19's with the OEM shocks...but that is a different animal than what you have.

I would do it again, the first hole raised it 3/4'' (looks more level) with a little better ride, and a little easier steering.

I was going for the full lift for even better steering and ride, but the 3/4 over the 1.25 was still an improvement.

At this point I'm glad I did it.....

    Default comfort lift

I have the comfort lift with the 14 inch shocks on my 2019 and have them in the max height. I had no problem getting them to line up with the holes. It rides very good. It is the same height now as it was with the stock shocks.

This thread has got me thinking. I have a 2018 and also could not get the 14" shocks into the "full lift" holes. I checked the swing arm during installation and it did not seem to be contacting the exhaust. I though that it had simply dropped to it's full travel.

Is it worth the effort to put it back up on the jacks and give it a re-look?

It seems like the secondary lift holes are in the same position as the original mount. Am I wrong there?

Will the full lift make that much of a difference since I've installed the Pro Action Shocks anyway?

To answer your second to last question first-

The 14" Convertible Comfort Lift™ is more about Comfort than Lift. (This is very different than the "normal" Convertible Comfort Lift™ that is made for the factory 13" shocks)

The lift for the 14" shocks has two sets of holes. Full Lift and Secondary Lift. BOTH sets of holes put the shocks in a more cantilevered position, which helps the shocks operate smoother (better comfort).

The full lift position, when combined with the 1" longer shocks, raised the body, at the axle, 1.25". So the net increase is 1" from the shocks and .25" from the lift. But when you look at it in the photos below, it looks like more than that, because it puts the shocks at more of an angle.

The secondary lift position, when combined with the 1" longer shocks, raised the body, at the axle, 7/8". So the net increase is 1" from the shocks and minus .0125" from the lift. But when you look at it in the photos below, it looks like it is still raising the body, but that increase height of the bottom shock mount is being eaten up by the shocks being at more of an angle.

Answering your first and last questions-

If you are curious, or if you are scraping your mufflers, then it may be worth it to you to take a second look.

There are usually only two things that can keep your swing arm from dropping all the way down-

The very front of the swingarm touching the S-shaped adapter going from the headers to the mufflers

Or, some part of the jack or jack stands preventing the swing arm from dropping lower.

The difference in height between the full and secondary is 3/8", not much. The difference in comfort is even less. They both put the shocks at a better angle for improved comfort.

This first photo shows the 14" Convertible Comfort Lift™ on the bottom, and the factory bracket on top. It is set at the Secondary position, and you can see that there is a significant difference in the location of the bottom shock mounting hole. This is what changes the angle of the shock and improves the ride quality.

This second photo shows the 14" Convertible Comfort Lift™ on the bottom, and the factory bracket on top. It is set at the full lift position, and you can see that there is even more difference in the location of the bottom shock mounting hole. This is what changes the angle of the shock and improves the ride quality, as well as lifting it 3/8" more than the secondary position.

    Hope that helps.

Excellent post!! Thank you very much. You've more than confirmed my thoughts that the added 1" provided by the shocks, including the extra shock travel, is a great improvement over the OEM setup. After installing the shocks and brackets I made several test rides. Solo and with my wife. I tweaked the setup a little after each ride and after making the final adjustment I found that I had returned the setup to exactly what you had provided "out of the box". I am super pleased with the results. Thanks again.
