Just as a tip, I use a poly "cutting board to put under the filter ... I trimmed it to fit under and up the sides of the filter, piece of blue painters tape to hold it, do the punch a hole thing, let it drain into my Harley oil drain pan while doing the three drain plugs. The thing I like about the Harley drain pan ... it's got enough area to catch oil so you can do it all at once if you choose. It also holds everything in all three holes.
After everything drains and I put the drain plugs back in, I un tape the filter, pull the filter off and slide the plastic out. Did all three holes in my garage today and didn't get a drop on the floor, went through 10 mechanics rags cleaning the drain plugs, putting the funnel in and out, etc. I put them in a pool chemical bucket with a cap of tri sodium phosphate and warm water for 30 minutes, rinse them and let them dry. Ready for the next maintenance.
As a side note ... one of my upcoming mods will probably be the oil filter relocation kit from DK ... I'm old enough now that I deserve things that make my life easier. Probably do that next oil change.
