Trans & primary oils
I have always change to 20-50 SYN3 at 1000 miles. (in all 3-holes).....
I'm in the process of changing out the new 2019 M8. So my question is, opinions on the better oil for the trans & primary? The syn3 in the trans on the older 2001 soft tail did seam to shift smother. I did not see any difference's on the new trike.
I would think the SYN-3 In all 3 holes would be the better choice.
Opinions?????

Every one has a preference but mine is motor oil such as Syn 3 in the motor but not in the trans or primary. I've had good results just using the H-D Formula + in the trans and primary. No problem shifting or finding neutral. And H-D has just come out with a fully synthetic fluid for trans and primary. I'll most likely switch to that next time I change those fluids.
I tried the red line option in my 14 Ultra Limited and recently purchased the complete line for my 2014 Tri.
Shifting is smoother, engine is quieter and just seems to run cooler and smoother.

Only Redline for the last 20 years for me and now in my 2019 Tri glide also. I do use formula plus in the primary

Redline on the next oil change for sure. Picked-up the 5 qt and filter kit, (SYN3) and talked to the parts Guy. He said the trans people that builds there high in transmissions for there big inch, big powered motors won't guaranty them unless they use the Redline in the trans.
Also picked up the oil drain catcher #62700199 for $18.87.. Could not get it to latch-in, Thought I had it tight,
cracked the filter loose and oil ran down missing it. I used it to drag the filter away from the eng. So I don't know yet if it was me, or its junk.
Anybody have luck with it?

Checked Amazon they have the kit for all three holes w/injector cleaner and a "CAP"
For 125.70. I assume that's the best deal. (that I found so far).

I don't have a Harley, BUT when ever I help my friend change the oil(s) in his Harley (all three holes) he alway uses REDLINE BRAND and his bike are spotless, and he always uses the best in everything he owns.. SO if he uses REDLINE brand you can be sure that this is the best brand out there!

Another vote for Redline products, I changed to it at the 1000 mile mark, very happy with the results, especially the shockproof in the tranny.

I just recently scored a bunch of Redline products on Craigslist from a guy who had to quit riding for half off.
So far, I have only tried the Shockproof in the tranny, but it's the best I have ever used.
I also put 1/2 a bottle of their fuel system cleaner in a full tank & plan on repeating that every 1,000 miles.

I switched to Red Line last year @ my 5k service and ordered the Big Twin 20w 50 V Twin Power Package from Amazon. I did have to order an additional quart of the Primary Gear Oil, as my 2016 Service Manual calls for 34 ounces after change and the Power Package only contains one quart. I have enough left over now for 15 more changes.Thanks Guys,

I have been using Red Line Primary, Motor Oil and Transmission products for 10 years or so. Very satisfied with them.
16 TGU Mysterious Red / Velocity Red. FM Ceramic Head pipe and FM E-Series tunable exhaust. PV Target Tune-AT WB Tuner. DK Outlaw 606 AC with EBS, Ward’s FCS fans. For no more mess in changing the oil filter, I use the Cool-n-Clean Oil Filter Relocation Kit. Makes changes a snap, no more mess, and it runs cooler!
Can't count the different "tools" & "methods" I've tried to remove the filter with no mess....never could get any of them to work easily or consistently.

I got the new HD orange funnel drain thing for the M8. It worked great for me, but you have to install it per the instructions, turn it to snap it in place. I then take a long screwdriver & punch a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain it.
Then when I unscrewed it, it was mostly drained.

Amsoil is all I use in my Triglide. Was using their primary & transmission synthetics for each, but now they are recommending their Vtwin 20W50 in all 3 holes as first choice. Will be switching to that at the 5K service. Will be nice just having one fluid for everything.
Ya, it made quite the mess when it leaked pastThe rubber grommets, on the cover for the pump don't seam to be neoprene. Had to take them out and whip them down, and they seamed extra soft. the cover had no resistance in pulling it back off. I did mess with the drain and think It was not in all the way.
