Question about the Parking Brake.

I noticed this awhile ago and have looked at a "un molested" Try to see if it is "normal". Yesterday when I looked at the Love Jugs install, I noticed it again and wanted to get others takes.

If you stand on the left side of the trike near the tank and look down at the parking brake, there is a shinny cylinder that becomes very noticeable when you put the board relocators on.





It looks like something is "coming loose" ... it's not ... Like I said, when I was getting the Redline stuff, I checked a new tri and it had the same thing.

So here's the question. What in the heck is that all about? The Fat Bottom Girl is a 14 so 5 years old and this thing is not rusting, so probably never will. It just looks like something is coming loose ... I can see no reason to have it that like that, but, maybe I missed something. I don't think it makes any difference ... I'm just very curious about why?

That's the highly polished standoff that is a part of the shaft affixed to Parking Brake Mount. It provides the needed clearance that allows the Parking Brake Pedal to move upward and downward and not make contact with the Parking Brake Mount.

I just don't understand why they didn't paint or powder coat it gloss black like the rest of it ... I for the life of me can't figure out why they polished it ... gotta be an obscure reason for that .. LOL ... Just about my pay grade.

We can only hope their reasoning was to our benefit.

Probably it is a part the moco already had sourced and using for some other application. That is my guess. Anyone else?

For the same reason they put those ugly banjo bolts on the brake and clutch. Gloss black ones are available at a cost, but in an effort to keep costs down, Harley puts a lot of generic looking stuff on the bike.

I concur ... but .. it is curious ... I'm guessing it's cheaper to paint that section than polish it ... so maybe they polish it to raise the cost????

Maybe just a bit of contrast to off set the black?

I am going to say it looks like a wheel spacer for some bike and harley has a ton of them so they use this for the parking brake

I am not MDO but I would say at least a 60 weight oil, it would stay on and if you can get a thicker oil use that or STP would work also, it is thick
