Questions about PowerVision tuner on a 2018 TriGlide

I have a question about the PowerVision being installed on a 2018 Triglide. I had one on my 2013 trike and loved how I was able to get the trike to run so well.

I've read in several posts that you can go back to the factory tune before taking it in for service and the diagnostics unit it gets hooked up to can't tell that another tune was put in the ECM.

So my question is this.....Has anyone actually tried this and passed the "lie detector' test? I'm not talking about "in theory" or that it "should be fine". I'm curious if anyone has a PV installed and running a tune, then went back to the original tune and no red flags showed up? My local dealership sells the PV, so I asked them about it and they agreed that it "should pass" the digital technician test, but couldn't swear to it. They said they'd be willing to let me try it out on my trike. I said no thanks (in case it didn't work) and maybe we could use one of their new bikes on the showroom floor....you can guess how that answer went.

My other question is if it does in fact work, how does it work when other tuners seem to get caught? Please keep explanations simple for my simple mind..HAHA. Not knowledgeable enough to understand a real technical explanation.

You raise some interesting questions. I know from this forum and others I visit that the Power Vision tuner is touted as being able to restore the OEM factory tune and the prior presence of a PV tune cannot be detected. Ditto for the TTS Master Tune device. But I don't know how they do that for sure . . . or like you how they avoid detection.

I've also read that loading such a tune will flash a date (the date it was loaded I guess) and if that date is later than what the OEM factory tune should be that can lead to detection. But these are just what I've read.

I appreciate you asking this question and I too would like to hear a detailed technical response . . . not just trust me it works.

Vance & Hines got in big trouble with the EPA for their non-compliant tuner. Just wondering how much longer before the Power Vision and TTS Master Tune devices run into the same brick wall.

I doubt the manufacturer will get grief ... they sell these tuners as "off road" or "racing" tuners.

So did Harley for many years. V&H already got a fine for their mufflers and now their tuners are EPA compliant. Just sayin' . . . .regulators gonna regulate. It's their reason for existence, their identity, their livelihood, their religion. There will never, ever be 'enough.' If whatever problem they were tasked to solve was in fact solved . . . well you get the idea.

From what I’ve read, there is no way to beat the scan/digital tech. HD has installed a digital counter in the ecm, anytime the ecm is flashed it counts it. Dealers will sell you anything. Some dealers may look the other way on some things, but if the motor company calls for a digital scan for proof it’s stock or their tuner, you’re busted. If your worried about warranty it’s the se tuner only. Also, I have read where the extended warranty people are following HD’s lead, so if you have an extended warranty make sure you read the fine print on modifications. It’s the old adage “if you want to play, you have to pay”.

You could call Dyno Jet the manufacturer of the Power Vision and pose the question to them. However I doubt you'd be able to get far enough up the 'food chain' to have complete confidence in what they told you.

As for TTS Master Tune Steve Cole is the inventor / owner and you can most likely speak directly to him. I did several years ago when H-D changed vendors for their tuners. The old Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner (SERT) was from TTS. After they switched vendors for a fee TTS would 'unlock' features that allowed the interface to affect parameters H-D would not allow them to have in the Race Tuner. I had a Race Tuner on my '07 and spoke to Steve and had the interface updated.

As for now I have no plans to use any tuning device but if I did I'd probably place these calls.

After losing 6th and 5th gears in my transmission on my trip last weekend and being fully covered by warranty (saving me about $2,600), I don’t think I’ll be adding the PowerVision any time soon. That is really too bad because I had it on my 2013 Triglide and loved how well it ran with a good tune, but I don’t want to take the chance of breaking down again and getting flagged.

Just saw this.

Yes, the Power Vision can restore the original tune, leaving no footprint that a PV tune was ever flashed.

It will trigger the counter that something was flashed, but there is no identification of what was used to flash the ECM.

You can flash the ECM as many times as you want with a HD tuner...or have the dealership flash the ECM. You can always go back to the stock tune, and the only thing that will show with a PV or TTS is that there was a flash...and a flash does not void the warranty, only a flash from a non-approved tuner, and there is no way they can distinguish between a PV flash and an approved flash- AS LONG as the PV was used properly to restore the original tune.

btw, the Dealership cannot "look the other way". The digital technician is directly linked to HD Corporate and they will see if there is/or was a flash on/to the ECM.

If you use a PV on a 2017 or later model, make sure you restore the original tune before going to the dealership while under factory warranty.

I have my PV mounted on my 2018 from my last Road King, for the gauge functions only [until the HD warranty expires] and when in for servicing I make sure the Service Manager is aware of how it is used and I also leave a 'stickie note' on the PV for the Tech. It appears the dealership searches diligently for any reason to deny warranty coverage.
