I just bought a 2017 Goldwing with a Roadsmith kit. Absolutely love it. The problem is I installed my GPS with my Ram mounting lit and need to run the power cord into the compartment on the left hand side compartment where the 12 volt auxilliary plug is installed. There really isn't a cut-out to get the wire in there and be able to close the door. Keeps popping open. I currently am keeping it closed with tape. Has anyone ever run into this problem and if so what did you do? I'm considering carving out a small hole with a dremmel tool but would like to hear if anyone has a better idea. Thanks for any advice. (Yes, I realize that's my '97 trike in the picture and need to update it with a new picture. As soon as my son is available to do it for me, that's when it'll be done. LOL)

On my 2006 Goldwing. I trimmed the lip on the side of the box, just enough to pass the wires through, did not touch the lid itself. It was a tight close after that, but it worked. Never had a issue as far as getting any water into the box, whether washing or heavy rain.

I also have a 2017 and am using the GPS mount from a 2009 I had. It is a Garmin 665 with RAM mount.

Easy to wire. Pull the pocket to get to the 12V connector and the audio plug (the audio plug has to be pulled out of the pocket). Run the power & audio cable underneath the handlebar and down around to the power connector & audio plug (all wires are tie-wrapped under the left handlebar with slack for steering). No holes to drill. In addition I have the XM antenna. For the cable for the antenna, I enlarged the hole where the Headset cable comes out just enough to add the antenna cable.

I got a power plug adapter and wired it direct to the battery. Pluged in the GPS to it. Ran the power cable under the seat and tank up to the handlebars. Used Ram mounts for both GPS and XM Radio. I was told pluging it into the cigarette lighter plug will over heat the plug

I ended up making a hole in the plastic side pocket just under the 12 volt plug. I was going to try to snake the gps wire through the hole go under and up through the forks opening. Way too much plastic in the way. My wife had an excellent idea. I removed the intercom plug and tie wrapped it under the box. I’ll never use it anyway. Then I used the wire slot for my gps cable. Works perfect. I had actually been using gorilla tape to keep the lid from opening with limited success.
