Considering a Purchase

I've ridden a trike for several years, but sold my Tri Glide last year after being advised by a doctor to take a year off riding. My neuron eval is next week, and I'm likely to be cleared.

I'm seriously considering an RT model.

Is there anything I need to know such as recalls, recommended modifications, etc? When I bought the Glide, I was unaware of the heat issues and really did not appreciate the time, effort and money required to bring it up to what I considered should be factory specs, so that's kind of what I'm looking for.

I went from a Tri to a 14 RT Spyder.

Somethings that do stand out.

  • Make sure the dealer does a Laser alignment if you decide to by one
  • Takes some getting use to with the inverted from end versus rear.
  • I love the semi auto shifting
  • Dont miss the clutch handle
  • drive like a Cadillac in My Opinion
  • Tire pressure and Tires are a big topic on these Bikes.
  • Farkles Anything you want :D
  • Power steering is even better
  • Yes its does have plastic to take off to do oil changes and things

I love the ride. I did replace the tires over time and made it even better,Baja Ron Sway bar helps a lot too. Now its even better than stock.

Lighting is a nice extra option.

Just upgraded my shocks but stocks are fine too.

Does that help any

Helps a lot, thanks. What you DIDN'T say tells even more. When I asked for similar input on another, uh, vehicle, I was referred for several thousand bucks worth of upgrades.

Do I need a laser alignment on a new trike? Just wondering.

Yes it is HIGHLY recommended to get the laser aligned. If you buy new it should already be done but ask if they do it that way.

What I didn't tell you was HOW Happy to get my ass off the TANK on a Spyder. I was a Die Had Harley Fan but the crapola parts and tired of wrenching on it. They test rode a Spyder and been on it even since.

The Spyder lovers site has lots of info but lots of conflict info at times :D

Test ride one and see what you thing. Sometimes certain bikes and not everyone preferred for riding.

OH I will tell that stock seat if horrible but everyone has different fanies and preferences.

Plenty of info out there on the SPyder

Mutha, I've read on the lovers forum that the RTL seats are the best they have ever ridden, but as you say, different behinds, etc. I know the seat on the RTL demo was as comfortable as I have ever experienced, but then, that's 20 mins or so. Can't draw good conclusions from a short ride.

Some like them some dont. They are great the first Hour after that I found myself sliding forward and never got comfortable. Like I said Each Butts and body's are different and sometimes need a better option :D

My Ultimate seat been really good for me. :D and for the Wife. I dont hear her Groan as much :eek:mg:

Lazer alignment is usually not performed by dealers by should be done ASAP usually by an independent contractor. Squared Away is probably the best known. They can usually be found at many of the Spyder rallies. As to the seat,I found that the seat was not good enough for long distance or great amounts of time. I solved that problem by putting in a gel pad from motorcycledave.com. Heat,I don't think this is a problem on the 1330,but there are block off plates you can add easily and cheaply. I added a BajaRon Swaybar to mine but I rode it for a year first. It did make a big difference. I also went to car tires all the way around but waited until the factory tires wore out.
