    Default Towing trike advise

Hey everyone. I'm looking to buy a 6'x10' utility trailer. There are times I just have to haul the Triglide because of wife's health issues. The dealer has one that has a flat deck and another with the dove tail. Both are the same price. Is one better than the other? Not sure which one to get. Any advise, personal experiences appreciated. Thanks, RevJ.

My personal choice would be the dove tail (shorter ramps)..

QUESTION: do they tilt????? "IF NOT, THE DOVETAIL would be the way to go.

If they do tilt, I would still go with the dove tail......

    Hopes this helps.

Is that because the shorter ramp takes up less space or is it easier to load? Neither trailers tilt. Thanks, RevJ.

The back of the trailer should be closer to the ground. (not as steep)All mine(3) have dove tails, lots of times I can back into a ditch and not use the ramps. I assume the trailers have a 1-piece back that drops down?

    PIC'S?

IMO, I would ride the trike to his facility & see which one that you like the best when loading the trike. The longer gate ramp is better when loading to avoid bottoming out. I have an open 19' car hauler that I use hauling different equipment. The 5' ramps that came with the trailer were good for cars but not so much for riding mowers. Got a set of 7' ramps & all is good. Whichever trailer you purchase, be sure to get a spare tire.

I'd buy the Dovetail and have them put the Taller ramp on it. I had mine built like that....works great. Also had them add a short {ish} stone guard. jc

You might want to look at the Aluma TK-1 trike-specific trailer. Integral ramp slides out from under bed, stone guard protects from gravel, etc., and weighs only 550#. You can see it here: https://www.alumaklm.com/recreationa...-trike-trailer

    Good luck!

If you can find one i would look at a 6 1/2 ft wide that's what i have and it gives you just enough extra clearance on the sides. My friend put his Tri on his 6 ft wide trailer and i wouldn't feel comfortable only have a couple inches of clearance between the trailer and the rear fenders,if i heard the parts guy right the unpainted fender is $700.Mine is not a dove tail and i wish it was,i have two short 2x10's that i use to make the ramp a little longer so the pipes don't drag.

If possible, $ wise, I would consider an enclosed trailer. Better security and not exposed to the elements while towing. There are some good deals on used enclosed trailers out there!!!

    Suggesting 7X12 for a trike

Here's some new and used examples on EBay:

Sorry...but other add-ons.... I had them run angle Iron under the deck where I was going to bolt the chock. Gives me a solid mount...And had them add other bars to the ramp where all three tires hit...again, maybe a bit over cautious...but peace of mind. you can see the better supported ramp in the pic.

What jc said, dovetail with the longer ramp is a excellent idea & choice.

I would go for the dovetail model. It will make loading easier especially with a longer ramp.

We bought an Aluma 7712H tilt trailer after my wife decided she wasn't up to long distance trips riding in bad weather anymore.

You will find a 6x10 enclosed trailer is a little too small for hauling a trike. I use a 7x12 enclosed trailer, tandem axle, electric brakes, and a rear ramp door. Super easy to tie down and haul the bike. Mine weighs about 3500 lb with the bike loaded. Additionally I have room for extra junk. This is the one that I have for example:

Dove tail is best choice. Your mufflers are close to the ground. The regular trailer will be a steeper (higher) ramp. Dovetail makes a smoother transition to deck.

That is a great looking trailer...and surprised you don't drag on the way in or out...and being aluminum...nice and light.

Thanks JC... I have to two short sections of 2×12 I lay down for the rear wheels just to make sure the pipes don't drag if we are loading/offloading somewhere the pavement is not level. The tilt on the trailer is 15 degrees and is usually ok.

+1 on the dove tail ... I built mine from an old boat trailer. I made a 6' x 6' ramp ... way over kill, but loads nice, but, dove tail would of allowed a shorter ramp that would have had less drag. I'm considering making the ramp fold down in half to cut the drag.

I have had both the TK-1 Aluma trailer and a previous one. We used to haul our Ultra once and awhile and that was why we purchased the first one. When we began traveling 7 months out of the year in our RV we went with the TK-1 for the TG.

With the storage box and protection up front you have a place for chocks and a jack. I even mounted a spare there. The ramp stores under aluminum bed and is hidden. With a torsion axle it is the perfect trailer for hauling a TG.

    Good luck with your decision.
