    Default What Is Your Rear Muffler Clearance At the Tips?

    My 2016 TGU WITH the DK 14 inch shocks and deluxe lift in the highest setting and no rider, gives me 6 1/4 inches from level ground on the far end of the mufflers. I can't remember what it was with the original suspension. Actually the left rear is a little less...about 6 1/8 or maybe a tad less.

    ****EDIT: I am running the factory rear tires with 22 to 23 PSI.****
    16 TGU Mysterious Red / Velocity Red. FM Ceramic Head pipe and FM E-Series tunable exhaust. PV Target Tune-AT WB Tuner. DK Outlaw 606 AC with EBS, Ward’s FCS fans. DK Custom Oil filter/Cooler relocation kit, Comfort Lift and 14 inch shocks. DK tank lift, wind deflectors, floorboard extenders, and tour pak relocator. Chrome TGU wheels. Bad Ass Lights tail lights. Lighted controls and Krome Works 2+2 narrow handle bars.

    I also have a 16 TGU with deluxe lift kit, Ohlins 159 shocks, I read 6 1/2 inch clearance to ground, a little less on the left pipe,

    no one asked about Freewheelers, but my 2015 with lift kit and stock shocks (15 psi) measures 6-1/2".

    Zammy, that is interesting. What size and type slip on mufflers? That is a full inch and 1/8th more than some of us. TarheelLeo said he was at 7 also with fish tails.

    I'm running right at 6 3/8" with ProAction 14" shocks and Comfort Lift not in highest position. Goodyear ComfortTreads with 23 psi - same size as stock.

    Well that makes about 4 of us at 6 1/2 to 6 including the one freewheeler and a couple at 7 inches or so.

    Mike, here's a pic of the tips after the install, at the time the mufflers were stock. I now have SE Street Canons and really haven't paid any attention to the height.

    Default End Diameter

    Zammy, yeah, the diameter of the muffler at the very end varies and from what I remember the stock slip on's narrow down pretty good at the end. Your picture seems to show that. That will definitely make some of the difference.

    With the DK comfort lift and fuel moto Series E mufflers, I'm right at 7" on both sides. I'm not sure what the OP was looking for, but, I see the results are varied depending on muffler, lifts, tire pressure, shocks, (if air shocks, how much air in them), load in the trunk, tour pak loading ... just to name a few variables.

    I am aware that all of those things make a difference and that is why I posted with my lift and shocks, stock tires and air pressure. I don't carry but about 20 lbs of "stuff" in my tour pak or trunk for all my local riding. My muffler types are in my sig, but I probably should have posted that also. I was just trying to get ideas about the average height below the muffler low point with the trike in no rider, normal load weight, sitting still on level ground.

    2. I didn't bother to post why I was interested in this, but I will explain. I have an Aluma TK1 trailer. When it it is hooked to the back of my 2013 Odyssey and on level ground, I have to be very careful (with me on the trike) when backing it off. The very tip of the mufflers will scrape just a very little bit if I am not careful.

    Once the front tire gets on the ramp, because of the weight of the trike and rider now going "down hill" I still have to be careful with the brakes because it will slide just a little on the slick Aluminum surface.

    I know I can find a different spot to unload where the back of the trailer is in a level ground spot, and I can add some wide rough textured material on the ramp to give the tires more grip when backing off, and carry some form of ramp extension.

    Anyway, as Paul Harvey always said "Now you know the rest of the story".

    Get yourself a 2 x 6 the width of the ramp ... put it under the ramp and you will never drag again. Or, what I do is jack up the shock pressure when loading and lower it back after unloading .. does two things ... raises the rear and minimizes bouncing while trailered ... ... I needed a 2 x 6 with the Gold Wing trike it was about 8" longer.
