    Default how to change rear brake light switch on 2016 triglide

    ​the title says it all. red security light stayed on and could not set cruise. ran codes and it came up rear brake light switch

    All the manual says that I could find is:

    If installing new rear stop lamp switch, apply LOCTITE 565 THREAD SEALANT. Install switch into rear brake line. Tighten to 12-15 ft-lbs (16.3-20.3 Nm).



    I get the impression you will need to bleed the brakes after ... you'll need the "procedure to get the air out ... pretty sure the 16's have linked brakes like my 14

    I installed a Kuryakin extended brake pedal & you have to deal with the rear brake switch then. It does not seem difficult.

    When I get home I will look in my trike supplement.

    Service manual states to bleed system after replacing switch. I have replaced this rear brake switch before on a ABS touring bike. I removed switch and and installed prepared new one,but did not tighten up.Left it finger tight and then applied rear brake and kept pressure on pedal while switch was tightened down to specs. This removed any air left in line after original switch removed. ABS worked fine after,but I might of been lucky.Worth a try considering what a Dealer will charge you to bleed system after switch replaced.

    The trick there is to not operate either brake while the switch is out, obviously. If you get lucky and don't need to bleed after, be sure to check fluid level afterwards.

    Bleed or not to bleed, I've heard both. I've changed a many of the switches and pretty much know what to look for as to how the pedal feels etc. Why do motorcycle mfgs always hide what you need to get to? Thanks guys for the info

    Tri-Glides did not have ABS until the 2019 model year so your 2016 does not need to be bled by the dealer like they say the ones with ABS do. If your 2016 has the reflex linked brakes like my 2018 TG then the master cylinder feeds lines to both back brakes and also to one piston on each of the front brake calipers. So four positions to be bled and there is a specific procedure in the service manual supplement as to the order - farthest point is bled first.

    I looked in my service manual and my service manual supplement and could not find anything specific to the brake light switch. It may be there but it is well hidden, lol.
