Glad to hear you're going to the Rocky Mountain HOG rally next week. Should be a great rally especially since it's looking like the weather is finally going to start getting more summer-like. I'll be heading up there with a few other trikes, so let me know if you'd be interested in meeting up sometime while we're there.

Now there is a plan ... he is optically limited ... you know, one eye and all ... and he does think he's human ... or at least not a dog ... actually, more like the King.

Default Haven't given up on the Doggles ... yet

Not being sure that the "New Dog Goggles" are gonna be a good fit for Harley's needs, I've been playing with the old Doggles. They may be a tad large for his face, but, they've worked for many years so, I'm thinking replace the elastic and they should be fine.

To this end, I tightened up the elastic by pulling about a half inch together and using a small electrical tie, made the whole elastic shorter. This is temporary and if it works, I'll be using new elastic so as not to make anything that might irritate Harley's neck or head. Here is the "new" fit. Snug, but, not so snug as to let it touch his eyes.

As a reminder, these are the ones I ordered. It's a generic Yorkie, not Harley. I keep Harley's hair shorter, especially around his face. I can't let his hair get that long because he won't let me brush him ... he just bites me to let me know that. There are no illusions in my house ... Harley is King ... LOL.

Default On our rides, I have been a touch uncomfortable not being able to "see" Harley.

So, I wanted a way to keep an occasional eye on him. I'm a large economy size model and it's tough to get a mirror angle that allows me to see the little guy behind me.

I went to the garage this morning. Yea, I know ... I keep going to that well and it may come up dry. But, not today.

Routing through a box of DoDads I've collected over the years, I found this:

    Name: Base 1.jpg
Views: 164
Size: 499.0 KB

This is a car vent mount for something I bought years ago and I never used the mount. It has the ability to open under spring pressure and "clamp" onto anything small enough to fit between it's jowls. It's a start ... a plan came together. If I could make a 90* bracket, I could Gorilla Tape the bracket to the clamp and mount one of those convex or concave mirror on it. I can never remember which they are ... just those spot mirrors you add to your car mirrors.

    Name: Spot Mirrors.jpeg
Views: 165
Size: 520.6 KB

The picture is one I took of the spots I added to the Gold Wing's mirrors, I need to go get me a new one.

Anyway, First step was to find something to make a bracket out of. I found an old cramp buster.

    Name: Cramp Buster 7.95.jpg
Views: 153
Size: 283.8 KB

I bought this thing years ago when I had a issue with a GL1500's cruise control. Later I fixed the cruise and never used it.

So, I cut the end of the cramp buster off and used my heat gun to get it hot enough to get make a flat piece long enough. Next I used the heat gun again to heat it up and bend it to make a 90* bend in the flat piece I made.

    Name: Angle 1.jpg
Views: 159
Size: 604.6 KB

Next I prepped the base and the angled piece to use Gorilla Double sticky tape to hold them together. Could of used epoxy here, but, since I don't have a spot mirror handy, I wanted to be able to test my theory with out it being too permanent. Step one was to use a small file to make some grooves in the mounting area to give them a tooth for the tape to grab.

    Name: Base 2.jpg
Views: 162
Size: 789.9 KB

Forgive me ... forgot to get a pic of the bracket prepped before I attached the tape to it.

    Name: Angle 2.jpg
Views: 164
Size: 764.1 KB

Last step was to mount the bracket to the base with the tape and clamp them together for about 10 minutes. I found this makes the tape hold lots better.

    Name: Unit.jpg
Views: 162
Size: 644.9 KB

Not sure if you can see it, but, the base has a ball and socket thingie that allows for some minor adjustment. Once I get the right angle, I'll put a drop or two of super glue on it to ensure vibration won't cause it to come apart. The plan is to mount this thing on the wind splitter windshield whenever I take the little guy. Being temporary, I don't have to have it when he's not onboard.

Next stop, get a spot mirror and test my "invention" ... LOL.

I'm old i guess but over the years i've tried spot mirrors and all they did was confuse me... Like the back-up camera on my slingshot....I try to watch it and then old ingrained habits kick in and i turn my eyes back and forth to the mirrors.....And the next thing i hear are car horns......

The mirror mount needs some work ... not sure how to get it far enough out to get past my girth ... time will tell.

I did purchase a set of mirror re locators for the Tri .. the haven't got here yet, but, I think they may allow me to turn the mirrors right side up and get past my girth ... maybe the new fisheyes will be able to see Harley in them.

    Easy........Elastic velcro straps......

Like the ones we used to hold down our pants so they didn't get caught in a bicycle chain......

Strap one on each forearm just below the elbow....With a mirror attached to them....

If that doesn't get around your Girth......Then Lets just say,

Hey Fuzzy...I like the concept for your "Harley " mirror. Have you looked at something like these? They have different sizes and styles.

She made two covers and an extra pad with this material.

I have a suggestion: I found out long ago that the inner padding, foam or whatever, can get soiled and can’t ever get it really clean and the odors out....

I take a tall kitchen trash bag and thoroughly wrap the inner padding in it, using tape to secure the bag around the padding - then place the outer covering over that. The outer covering can be washed and the inner padding stays clean and odor-free. The trash bag wrap can be wiped down if necessary before placing the clean outer covering back over the whole thing.

Saved me a bunch of money from replacing badly soiled “innards” over the years.

My friend put the pad she made in a rubberized pillow case ... the pillow case is a little long, but she just folded it under when she put her covers on ... She has a lot of experience making "dog" items, Harley's crate has the same type pad .. but the print is a little different ... still has the paw prints ... LOL

I like the baby monitor thing ... might have to look into that some more ... need to know how long the power lasts?, water proof?

If you can rig the wireless onto the trike or see it on your mounted phone the baby monitoring deal would be pretty cool if you can see it in the daylight... I personally don’t like the mirror inset thingies... tried them on cars and motorcycles... they tend to screw up the image in the mirrors so much that I can’t tell who, what, where with them.
