Rear Axle Seals

The Lehman Trike on my 2008 Suzuki C50 requires seals for the rear axle. The trike serial number T003182. Does anyone know what seal would fit this rear axle? I have heard the Lehman used Ford rear axles for some trikes until they developed their own based on the Ford design. I hope the seal is a popular style that I will be able to source locally in Ontario.

If you can get the seal out take it to a bearing house and they can match it off the numbers on the seal.

Just as a starting point, these #s might help when looking them up at the parts store, they are for Ford 6.75 axles … like my older GTL uses. National #3214 or NAPA #13985

May not even be close.

I think Jim told me once that later on, they switched to a different axle so these numbers may be useless.

The 3214 National seal is the right one for your axle.

About seals .... I have found that inexpensive seals may stop leaking short term but are not as resistant to early failure. So it is best to find a National or Timken seal. If your seal is leaking, the grease may have been washed out of the sealed axle bearing as well. This too might need replacement. If so, it is best to do both sides at the same time.

Les, If the bearing spins freely (like it is lacking grease and sounds dry) replace them.

Given your location, Do not use the Chinese made bearing.

I have had very bad results in 10% of the ones I have used in the past.

I only use Japanese bearings now and have sold over 100 without an issue.

Jim, I have ordered seals. I spoke with Canada Bearing today - Believe it or not National doesn't have any stock in CAN or US for 3214. However, that number crossed to 13985 from Chicago Rawhide. Apparently only available in the US although this is an SKF number. Will search deep if the bearings need replacing.

I have a dozen on my shelf, but am also having difficulty getting them too.
